Preview: Bobcats Ready For Three Consecutive Days Of Doubleheaders

BUCKHANNON, W.Va. – West Virginia Wesleyan Softball begins day one of three of doubleheaders tomorrow with Notre Dame College at noon and 2 p.m. The Bobcats will welcome Alderson Broaddus on Monday and Salem on Tuesday to Culpepper Field for doubleheaders as well.

THE SCHEDULE
Sunday vs Notre Dame College at Noon & 2 p.m.
Monday vs Alderson Broaddus at 4:30 & 6:30 p.m.
Tuesday vs Salem at 4 & 6 p.m.

THE BOBCATS
Wesleyan enters (21-8) overall and (8-2) in MEC play, currently a .5 game behind 1st place (Charleston) in the South Division. Last time out, WVWC split with Davis & Elkins on Wednesday.

Morgan Norris raised her average to .329 and OPS to 1.016, recording a team-leading 27 hits, seven doubles, three triples, 3 HR and 24 RBI (7th MEC). Taylor Swartz (15), Kaitlyn Rizor (12), Andie Dizon (11) and Kiley Turner (10) are other Bobcats who have double-digit RBI so far this season. Coming off her MEC Co-Pitcher of the Week award, Kendall Stoffel comes into the three-day set with 10 wins (1st MEC), 1.19 ERA (2nd MEC) and three shutouts in 12 appearances this season.

NOTRE DAME COLLEGE FALCONS
The Falcons enter (15-11) overall and (7-3) in MEC play. NDC played Alderson Broaddus on Wednesday, splitting with the Battlers on the road.

Emma Gumont's .381 AVG puts her 3rd in the MEC, adding 32 hits, six doubles, two doubles, 4 HR and 29 RBI. Daniella Fick (.341) and Ella Collinsworth (.333) have been instrumental to the offense as well, with Fick having 30 hits, nine doubles, 3 HR and 10 RBI to add to her .340+ average. Grace Fisher leads the pitching staff, holding a 2.98 ERA, 5-5 record, eight complete games (two shutouts) and 75 strikeouts in 80 innings of work.

Kelsey Stopp is in her 5th season leading the Falcons after serving as an assistant on the staff for one season. Last season, Stopp had multiple players hold All-Conference honors, the first time since joining the MEC. Stopp led the Falcons to an MEC Tournaent birth in 2019 and 2021, where they picked up two wins.

ALDERSON BROADDUS BATTLERS
The Battlers enter (8-20) overall and (3-7) in MEC play. AB has won three out of their last four with a doubleheader sweep over Salem on Thursday and splitting with NDC on Wednesday.

Breonna Marietta bats .263 but brings power to the Battler lineup. On the season, she has 4 HR and 15 RBI while slugging .509. AJ Borja and Bri Sersevic are tied for the team lead with 20 hits and Sersevic adds 12 RBI to the offense. The pitching rotation has struggled thus far for AB, holding an average 5.71 ERA between the top three starters.

Nikki Nuzum is in just her 2nd season at the helm of the AB Softball program. In her first season leading the program, the Battlers won 20 games (they won just one game in 2021). Nuzum previously spent time as HC at Franciscan University. Prior to Franciscan, she had assistant coaching stops at Youngstown State, Washington & Jefferson Potomac State and Penn State Fayette.

SALEM TIGERS
The Tigers enter (13-18) overall, holding MEC wins over Wheeling (doubleheader sweep) and Concord. Salem is riding a three-game losing streak currently.

Sierra Chapa is hitting .378 with 34 hits and 12 RBI but when the Tigers are looking for power, they look to Meesha Arroyo. She is batting .244 with 22 hits, five doubles, 3 HR and 16 RBI. Arroyo has found success in the circle as well, recording a 9-3 record with a 4.67 ERA in 79 innings.

Steve Potts is in his 13th season as Head Coach of Salem. Potts also serves as Director of Athletics and had spent three seasons as an assistant coach with the Tigers before taking over the program. He holds the coaching wins record at Salem with 155 and most wins in a season with 23 in the 2016 season.
