Softball Loses Pair of 3-2 Games At Davis & Elkins

ELKINS, W.Va. – The West Virginia Wesleyan Softball team lost both games of their doubleheader on the road this afternoon at Davis & Elkins. D&E won both games 3-2 as Wesleyan opened each game up with the lead but the Senators were able to come back and win both.

Game 1
The Senators started the game out by setting the Bobcat order down 1-2-3 and had runners at first and second with no outs in the bottom of the 1st. Hannah Hudson was able to get three consecutive outs to get out of the 1st inning jam unscathed. Alli Robinson started the top of the 2nd off with a single and Andie Dizon was able to get on due to an error. Kaitlyn Rizor loaded the bases with a single up the middle and Kiley Turner broke the scoreless start with a 2-run double.

In the bottom of the 3rd, D&E put two runners on via error and a single, setting up the 3-run HR that gave the Senators the 3-2 lead. The Bobcats continued to put runners in scoring position but couldn't capitalize off of it. Wesleyan went down in order to end the game in the top of the 7th.

Alyssa Haynes had two hits on the day and Linzey Allard's 3-run HR was what boosted the Senators to the win. Alexa Uphold took the win, pitching seven innings and giving up two runs (one earned) on six hits, two walks and striking out two.

Kiley Turner had both RBIs for the Bobcats and Alyssa Souders went 2-3 at the plate. Hannah Hudson was given the loss after six innings, three runs (two earned) on six hits and seven strikeouts.

Game 2
Just like the first game, the Bobcats got on the board in the top of the 1st. Taylor Swartz singled and Morgan Norris doubled in the right-center gap, allowing Alli Robinson to get the sacrifice fly to deep center field. A single and a throwing error put a runner in scoring position for the Senators in the bottom of the 2nd, tying the game up with an RBI single two batters later. With a runner at third in the top of the 3rd, the Bobcats left with nothing after a pop up to second.

Davis & Elkins took the lead with a solo shot in the bottom of the 4th and added to their lead in the bottom of the 5th with two out RBI double. Wesleyan cut into the deficit with an RBI single from Maya Reyes in the top of the 7th and was able to get Reyes in scoring position with two outs. The game ended on a strikeout as D&E picked up their second 3-2 win of the day.

Anjolina Gutierrez had two hits and an RBI to lead the Senators. Maddie Lavelle and Kailynn Parks also added an RBI each. Vanessa Hunt picked up her eighth win of the season, going the distance and allowing two runs (both earned) on five hits and one walk. She struck out five and hit a batter as well.

Taylor Swartz was the only Bobcat with two hits as Alli Robinson and Maya Reyes had an RBI apiece. Kendall Stoffel took just her second loss of the season, pitching 5.2 innings and surrendering three runs (all earned) on eight hits and walking two.

Up Next For The Bobcats
Wesleyan heads to Wheeling on Saturday for a doubleheader (1 & 3 p.m.) and then will take the short trip over to West Liberty for a Sunday doubleheader (2 & 4 p.m.).
