Preview: Baseball Welcomes Concord To Hank Ellis Field For A Four-Game Series

BUCKHANNON, W.Va. – West Virginia Wesleyan Baseball will be at Hank Ellis Field tomorrow and Saturday for a four-game series with the Mountain Lions of Concord University. The games were originally scheduled for Saturday and Sunday but were moved up due to weather.

THE SCHEDULE
Friday vs Concord at 3:30 & 6 p.m.
Saturday vs Concord at 1 & 3:30 p.m.

THE BOBCATS
Wesleyan enters (7-24) overall and (3-13) in MEC play, previously losing to Salem in back-to-back days. The Bobcats look to get back on track in conference play as they have lost 12-striaght MEC games.

Devin Johnson (32) and Jack Tilton (31) lead the Bobcats in hits while Johnson has raised his average to .337. Tilton is the only other Bobcats batting above .300 as he is hitting .301 with 2 HR and 14 RBI while also swiping eight bags to lead the team in steals. The pitching staff's Team ERA now sits at 9.14.

CONCORD MOUNTAIN LIONS
The Mountain Lions are one of the hottest teams in all of Division II right now, entering (19-12) overall and (15-1) in MEC play while also riding a 10-game winning streak. CU was ranked 9th in this week's Atlantic Regional Poll.

Concord features six Mountain Lions batting over .300, including the leader in the MEC in batting average, DJ Christian Jr., who is hitting an impressive .449 in 29 games played. Josh Adkins is batting .358 with 7 HR and 20 RBI as he has been one of the main sources of power in the CU lineup. Three others have 20+ RBI as well. The pitching staff is headlined by Andrew Neff with his 7-1 record, 3.98 ERA and 63 strikeouts in 54.1 IP.

Devin Smith is his 1st season as Head Coach of the Mountain Lion Baseball program. Smith served as an assistant for seven seasons in the CU dugout before getting the promotion to HC. He was a graduate assistant for two seasons as well at Concord. As a player at CU, Smith racked up 145 wins and was a part of the 2013 WVIAC Championship team.
