Preview: Bobcats Head South To Face Charleston In Four-Game Set

BUCKHANNON, W.Va. – West Virginia Wesleyan Baseball will be in the capital city this weekend for a four-game series with the Golden Eagles. The Bobcats will face Charleston on Friday and Sunday in doubleheaders.

Friday at 11 & 1:30 p.m.
Sunday at 1 & 3:30 p.m.

THE BOBCATS
Wesleyan enters (8-29) overall and (4-16) in MEC play, previously being defeated by Shepherd Wednesday evening in a doubleheader.

Devin Johnson (.321) and Jack Tilton (.314) are the only Bobcats batting above .300 and Johnson leads the team in RBI with 24. Cole Shearer has a team-leading 3 HR while batting .286 and driving in 12 runs. Tilton and Sam Ingram both have 38 hits, tied for best on the team with Ingram having double-digit steals with 10. The pitching staff is led by Hunter Eplin's 2-5 record and 5.70 ERA in 47.1 innings.

CHARLESTON GOLDEN EAGLES
The Golden Eagles enter (29-7) overall and (17-3) in MEC play, currently riding a six-game winning streak after defeating Glenville State in the last two games of their series and sweeping Davis & Elkins last weekend.

Charleston is led by reigning MEC & NCBWA Hitter of the Week, Kyle West. He is having a phenomenal season at the dish, hitting .390 with a 1.450 OPS, 48 hits, 12 doubles, four triples, 15 HR and 40 RBI. Tyler Dellerman backs West up, batting .363 with a 1.268 OPS, 45 hits, 10 doubles, one triple, 13 HR and 46 RBI. As a team, UC is hitting .304 and has 45 HR and 293 RBI. Pitching hasn't been as strong as the hitting, posting a 4.56 Team ERA.

Robbie Britt is in his 4th season leading the Charleston Baseball program. He has accomplished two MEC Regular Season titles and one MEC Tournament Championship while also coaching 20 All-Conference and five All-Region players in his short time at UC. During the 2022 season, he led the Golden Eagles to a 40-18 overall record, MEC Tournament Championship and a NCAA Tournament Regional berth.
