Preview: Softball Prepares For Big Weekend With WV State & Charleston At Culpepper Field

BUCKHANNON, W.Va. – West Virginia Wesleyan Softball is set to host West Virginia State and Charleston at home this weekend for a big set of MEC matchups. The Yellow Jackets will travel to Buckhannon tomorrow for a doubleheader and the Golden Eagles will be in town on Sunday for a doubleheader.

THE SCHEDULE
Friday vs WV State at 4 & 6 p.m.
Sunday vs Charleston at 2 & 4 p.m.

THE BOBCATS
Wesleyan enters (36-11) overall and (19-5) in MEC play after sweeping Wheeling & West Liberty last weekend and Salem on Tuesday.

Morgan Norris is nearing the .400 mark in average, hitting .390 with a 1.145 OPS, 55 hits, 12 doubles, three triples, 8 HR, 44 RBI and 97 total bases. Freshman Andie Dizon is second on the team with her .362 AVG, 4 HR and 28 RBI. All three starters on the pitching staff are under a 2.00 ERA, led by Kendall Stoffel's 1.06 ERA and 16-2 record.

WEST VIRGINIA STATE YELLOW JACKETS
The Yellow Jackets enter (13-24) overall and (7-17) in MEC play, splitting with Notre Dame College (Ohio) and Alderson Broaddus last weekend.

Kasey Murphy has the biggest bat for WVSU, hitting .386 with a 1.120 OPS, 44 hits, 11 doubles, 8 HR and 39 RBI. Emma Pauley leads the team in average at .394. Murphy is also the leading pitcher, posting an 8-10 record with a 4.41 ERA and 10 complete games.

Mattie Best is in her 5th season as the Head Coach of the WVSU Softball program. Best was the interim HC before being given the keys as the leader and prior to that, she spent three seasons as an assistant with the program. Best played collegiate softball at WVSU, where she is the all-time leader in doubles (67) and triples (13).

CHARLESTON GOLDEN EAGLES
The Golden Eagles enter (27-6) overall and (21-3) in MEC play, winning seven of their last eight. UC split with WVWC earlier in the season in the capital city.

Hannah Rose has had a stellar season for UC, batting a league-leading .528 with a 1.507 OPS, 11 doubles, 8 HR and 23 RBI. Isabella Andujar is having herself a season as well, hitting .330 with a 1.076 OPS, seven doubles, 11 HR and 36 RBI. Brianna McCown leads the pitching staff, holding onto a 17-2 record with a 2.06 ERA and seven shutouts. She also has 150 strikeouts in 115.1 innings of work.

Michelle Frew is in her 2nd season leading the Golden Eagles. In her first year leading the program, Frew coached the program's first-ever NFCA First Team All-American and first-ever Conference Player of the Year. She comes from Florida Southwestern State and holds over 1,000 wins at the Division II level.
