Bobcats Men’s Soccer Splits in a Week of Road Matches

The West Virginia Wesleyan College men's soccer team (5-2-1) went 1-and-1 in the past week on the road.

Wednesday, team goal-leader and MEC Player of the Week Sinasi Emre Deniz capped off the Bobcats' 3-goal shutout of Salem University (1-5-1) in the 63rd minute with a solo goal to bring his season total to five (11 points). Wesleyan's second-leading scorer Casey Bunker (6 points), snagged his second goal of the year with an assist by Pedro Parmezani in the 15th minute. The game's second goal was unassisted by Sam Newell in the 43rd minute, his first of the 2023 season.

Saturday, the Bobcats traveled to Davis and Elkins College to suffer its second loss of the year. Wesleyan goalkeeper Bryant Sheffield's 0.52 goals-against-average was tested by the Senators 2-0 victory. Unassisted goals were recorded by Mattia Bui (34th minute) and Dominique Castano, just seconds after the second half whistle blew.

Wesleyan returns home Wednesday, Sept. 27 to square off with MEC rival Notre Dame College (Ohio) at 7:30 p.m. at Culpepper Stadium.
