Wesleyan Held to 1-1 Tie by Visiting Wheeling Cardinals

Bobcat freshman midfielder Willem Pooley from Marlborough, U.K. recorded his first collegiate goal to give the Bobcats an early second half lead Wednesday, but the visiting Wheeling University Cardinals found the equalizer and left with a 1-1 tie.

Pooley's goal came in the 53rd minute after the Cardinals and Bobcats battled to a stalemate in the first half. Pooley stole an errant pass from the Cardinals' defensive third, dribbled toward a 1-v-1 with Wheeling keeper Daniel Delo, and buried the shot from 20 yards out.

The Cardinals ties it up when Jordan Taylor took a scrambling ball from teammate Antonio Herra-Blackwood and buried it into the open net.

Wesleyan dominated in shots 17-9 and Wheeling took six corners to Wesleyan's four.

The Bobcats go on the road to Concord University Sunday, Oct. 20 for a 3:30 p.m. kickoff in Athens.
