State Topples Wesleyan

by Ryan Drag, WVWC Sports Information

The 17-7 West Virgina State Yellow Jackets took on the 2-23 West Virgina Wesleyan Bobcats on Saturday and handed Wesleyan its twenty-fourth loss this season in a dominating 118-71 win to complete the season sweep.

The Bobcats stood little chance in a comeback after getting outscored by 30 points in the first half and shooting 38 percent as a team to end the game. It was a cold night for the Mountain East Conference's No. 8 player in field goal percentage Deiker Padrino, who shot 33 percent from the field and 20 percent from beyond the arc for nine points. The one ray of hope came from Joshua Johnson who scored 17 points and shot 70 percent, and Jalen Canada who tallied 11 points to end the night.

West Virginia State had an excellent night as they shot 58 percent and outrebounded Wesleyan 46-30. The Yellow Jackets had two players score more than 20 points in Miguel Martinez (24 points) and Kalil Camara (20 points). Three players also contributed with double digit performances in Nate Mims (17 points), Anthony Pittman (14 points), and Mahzi Thames (10 points).

The Bobcats return home to take on a solid Fairmont State University team on Wednesday, Feb. 28 at Rockefeller Center. Tipoff commences at 4 p.m.
