Buckhannon, W.Va- The Wesleyan softball team opened up their first home game series against Fairmont State University. Going into conference play, the Bobcats are looking to carry the momentum from the previous week at the Spring Games, in Florida.
Game 1:
Josi Fix would take the mound for the Bobcats and pitch 6.2 innings allowing 7 hits, 4 earned runs, with 7 strikeouts. Fairmont struck first in the 1st inning on a SAC fly to right field to bring in the first run. Wesleyan would answer in the bottom of the 1st with a SAC fly of their own to score
Brooklyn Osburn to tie it up. Carlee Ianonne would RBI single later in the inning and score
Alyssa Rohr to make it 2-1 Wesleyan. In the top of the 3rd, Fairmont would load the bases with 1 out. A 2 RBI single would give Fairmont the lead 3-2. The next at bat, another RBI single would score another run to make it 4-2. In the bottom of the 4th, Wesleyan would load the bases with 1 away and score Lindsay Dillion on an RBI ground out from
Kelsi Brown. Fairmont would score an insurance run in the 5th to make it 5-3. The Bobcats would be retired in the bottom of the 7th 1-2-3 to end game one.
Game 2:
Game two would be highlighted with a dominate pitching performance by Fairmont pitcher, Delaney Haller. She would allow 2 hits through 7 innings and 0 earned runs. Wesleyan's
Kendall Stoffel would take the loss pitching 5 innings giving up 3 hits and 4 earned runs. Fairmont would score 4 runs in the top of the 3rd and one more in the 6th inning. In the bottom of the 7th,
Andie Dizon would single with one away.
Kendall Stoffel would reach on an error to put runners at 1st and 2nd with one away. The next two batters for the Bobcats would be retired to finish game 2.
The Bobcats are set to play another conference double header against Frostburg University at home Sunday, March 17th at 1:00pm and 3:00pm.
