Buckhannon, W.Va- After coming off an 0-4 weekend at home, Wesleyan was looking to turn the script in conference play. A double header against rivals, Davis and Elkins would prove to be a tough matchup for the Bobcats. A close game one would be followed by a 0-6 loss in game two.
Game 1:
Josi Fix would take the rubber in game 1 and pitch 3.1 innings allowing 7 hits, 2 earned runs and 1 strikeout. Wesleyan would jump out in front in the bottom of the 1st with an RBI ground out from
Kendall Stoffel scoring
Brooklyn Osburn.
Carlee Iannone would RBI single scoring
Andie Dizon to make it 2-0 after the 1st. Davis and Elkins would answer in the top of the 2nd with unearned run from an error and later a 3 RBI Home Run to make it 4-2. In the 3rd, Wesleyan would fight back to with a RBI single from
Carlee Iannone bringing
Kendall Stoffel to score on an error from the left fielder.
Kelsi Brown would RBI single followed by a 2 RBI single from
Emma Jackson as a pinch hitter. Wesleyan would retake the lead 6-4 after the 5th. Davis and Elkins would answer in the top of the 6th with a pair of RBI doubles and and RBI single to make it 6-7 Davis and Elkins.
Game 2: The second game would be plagued with quiet bats and defensive errors. Wesleyan would start the game with a 1-2-3 inning in the 1st on defense. In the 2nd inning
Kendall Stoffel would walk the first two batters then strikeout the next two making it 2 outs runners on first and second. She would get out of the jam with a fielders choice and a putout between
Jenna Gomez and
Savannah O'Shields in the middle of the infield. In the top of the 3rd, Davis and Elkins would score 4 runs, two of witch unearned due to fielding errors. Two more unearned runs would come across in the top of the 4th. With runners at 2nd and 3rd with two outs, a fly ball to right field would result in an error scoring both runners. Kendall Stofffel would go to pitch 5 innings giving up 6 runs and 2 earned runs and take the loss.
Victoria Wehrberger would come in relief and pitch 2 perfect innings giving up no hits or earned runs.
The Bobcats will travel to Glenville State to play a weekend double header Saturday, March 23rd at 1:00pm.
