Game Recap: Softball |

Softball Drops Double Header to West Liberty

Culpepper Field

After splitting a series with Wheeling University, the Bobcats were looking to finish the home stand strong before going on the road. West Liberty would take both games with both games including runs resulting from good base running and miscommunication on the defensive side.

Game 1:
Kendall Stoffel would take the loss in game 1 pitching 4.1 innings giving up 7 hits and 2 earned runs. Wesleyan would get on the board first in the second inning when Gracey Arnold laced a single into the outfield, scoring pinch runner Lindsay Dillion. In the top of the 3rd, West Liberty would have runners on first and third. The runner on first would steal second and the throw down would go into the outfield scoring the runner at third to tie the game. Later the same inning, an RBI single would score another run to make it 1-2 West Liberty. The Hill toppers would hang onto their lead through the next 4 innings to win as the Bobcats struggles with hitting with runners in scoring position with 6 left on base in game 1.

Game 2:

Game 2 would last 9 full innings as the Bobcats would come back to tie it up in the bottom of the 7th. Emily Ross, with runners on second and third, would lay down a perfect bunt down the left side for a fielders choice and bring in Abigail Borello from third to tie the game at 2-2. Kelsi Brown would pitch the 9 full innings allowing 5 hits, 2 earned runs, and collecting 8 strikeouts on 112 pitches. An impressive pitching performance couldn't help the Bobcats' hitting with runners on as 14 total runners were left on base in game 2. In the top of the 9th inning, West Liberty would hit a 2 RBI double to make it 2-4 and seal game 2.

The Bobcats will play at Davis and Elkins College Wednesday, April 17th, for a double header starting at 2:00pm.
