WVWC Softball Shows Strides as they Split Doubleheader with Wheeling University

Buckhannon, W.Va.- The Wesleyan softball team would split a Saturday evening double header with Wheeling University. The Bobcats would defeat the Cardinals 8-1 in Game 1, while only giving up two hits . Wesleyan would drop Game 2  4-5 in an extra inning battle, while out hitting the Cardinals 12 to 10. 

Game 1: 

Pitcher Kendall Stoffel would begin the first inning out strong by striking out 2 of the first three batters, giving the Bobcats momentum heading into the bottom of the first inning. The Bobcats would get on the board first with a Sac Fly by Gracey Arnold to bring Alyssa Rohr home to give them a 1-0 lead late in the first inning. Stoffel would dominate the entire game, only giving up one hit in the five inning outing for the Bobcats. The Bobcats would continue their dominance on the offensive side as they were lead by Andie Dizon who went 3-3 on the day, while batting in 3 runs on her own. Alyssa Rohr was right behind her hitting 2-3 on the day, and batting in 1 run to help lead the Bobcats to a Game 1 win. The Bobcats would ultimately win Game 1 due to a run rule of 8-0, behind a game sealing at bat by Dizon to bring Rohr home from third base. Pitcher Kendall Stoffel would be awarded the win and a shutout for the Bobcats in the Game 1 victory. 

Game 2: 

Game 2 of this Saturday evening doubleheader was the opposite of game 1 and both teams came out swinging and ready for battle. Wheeling University would start this game on fire by scoring 4 runs in the 2nd inning of this game. Anna Florczak would bring the energy for the Cardinals by homering in the 2nd inning, bringing in 2 runs, putting the Cardinals up 4-1. The Bobcats would not go down without a fight and would bring in a run in the next two innings to tie the game up with the Cardinals. The Bobcats were lead by Alyssa Rohr who was having an outstanding weekend, who would finish this game batting 3 for 5. The next three inning would be controlled by both teams defenses, leading to an extra inning battle. In the top of the 8th inning the Cardinals were able to string up three hits, leading to a run being batted in by Makie Paxson, which put the Cardinals up 5-4. In the bottom of the 8th, the Bobcats were not able to string along any hits, which leaded to three straight outs and a Game 2 loss for the Bobcats. 


The Bobcats will host the Hilltoppers of West Liberty University for a doubleheader Sunday, April 14th starting at noon.
