Softball after losing both to Charleston, would split their double header with the Yellow Jackets. A close 2 run loss in game 1 came as the result of late fielding errors for the Bobcats in the 6th inning. Game 2,
Kendall Stoffel held the Yellow Jackets to just 4 hits and 1 run through 7 innings.
Game 1:
Josi Fix would pitch in game 1 going 6 innings allowing 7 hits, 3 earned runs, and 2 walks. With a 0-1 game going into the 2nd inning, the Bobcats would take the lead with a 2 RBI double from
Jenna Gomez. Later the same inning,
Brooklyn Osburn would RBI single to score
Hallie Dinklocker to ake it 3-1 Wesleyan. The Yellow Jackets would make it 3-2 in the bottom 2nd after a RBI double to right center. In the 4th inning, West Virginia State would tie the game with an RBI fielder's choice. In the 6th inning a run would come to score on an RBI ground-out along with another run scoring on a throwing error the same play. This would give the Yellow Jackets the lead and close game 1 out 3-5.
Game 2:
Kendall Stoffel would pitch 7 innings, allowing 1 earned run and racking up 10 total strikeouts. With 10 total hits in game 2, the offense for the Bobcats came to life to edge out the Yellow Jackets. West Virginia State would get ahead in the 1st inning scoring on a throwing error to make it 0-1.
Mollie White would tie the game in the 4th with a SAC fly to center field scoring
Kendall Stoffel from third base.
Carlee Iannone would RBI single in the 6th inning, scoring Lindsay Dillion to make it 2-1.
Sydney Leadbetter would bring in some insurance runs with a 2 RBI single up the middle in the 6th to make it 4-1 Bobcats.
The Softball team will play a make-up series against Bluefield State at home Tuesday April 23, starting at 3:00pm.
