The West Virginia Wesleyan Bobcats competed in a four-game series at home against the University of Charleston Golden Eagles this past weekend.

Game one was an exhilarating match between both teams as the Bobcats gained a 4-0 lead through two innings of play with an RBI double from Thatcher Poteat, an RBI single from Josh Ayala, and a two-run homerun from Jack Tilton.

Charleston was quick to answer back in the top of the third by putting up a four spot to even the score at 4-4.

Wesleyan reclaimed the lead in the bottom of the third with RBIs from Eddie Rueda and Luke Burner to make it 6-4.

The Golden Eagles tied it up in the top of the fourth and were able to claim its first lead in the top of the sixth inning by scoring three runs to make it 9-6.

The Bobcats were only able to tally one run from an RBI single from Poteat in the bottom of the sixth to make it 9-7 in hopes to mount a comeback in the bottom of the seventh.

Unfortunately, Charleston's Brayden McCallister blasted a two-run home run to bolster the lead to four.

Wesleyan was able to get one run off an RBI double from Burner but couldn't accumulate any more runs and dropped the first game of the series 11-8.

Alex Hernandez got the loss for the Bobcats and Scott Templeton got the win for Charleston.

In game two, the Bobcats were quick to retaliate after Charleston put up three runs in the top of the first. Wesleyan scored four runs in the bottom of the frame off RBI singles from Cole Shearer and Ayala, an RBI double from Devin Johnson, and a sac fly from Kohei Fujushita.

The Golden Eagles tied the game in the top of the second, but Wesleyan got the lead back in the bottom of the third with an RBI single from Rueda to make it 5-4.

From there on out, Charleston was able to get 14 runs through four innings of play.

The Bobcats tallied two runs in the bottom of the seventh but dropped game two of the series 18-7.

Broderick Rohrbaugh was the losing pitcher and Dwanye Sumler got the win.

After scoring five runs in the top of the first, game three was a runaway for Charleston as they put up 12 runs off 19 hits.

With multi-hit games from Johnson and Preston Todd and a 3-3 game from Tilton, Wesleyan was unable to get anything going as it only scored four runs off eight hits and lost 12-4.

Anthony Hernandez got the loss and Trace Hartman got the win.

Game four started off with the Golden Eagles taking a 4-0 lead through three innings of play.

In the bottom of the third, Grant Shumaker was able to get an RBI and make it 4-1.

Charleston extended its lead in the top of the sixth by scoring two runs to make it 6-1.

The Bobcats proceeded to mount a comeback by putting up three runs in the bottom of the sixth with an RBI double from Ryan Drag and two RBIs from Fujushita to make it 6-4.

After keeping Charleston silent in the top of the seventh, Wesleyan was shut down and lost the final game of the series to complete the sweep.

The Bobcats look to snap its 11-game losing streak against Bluefield State University in a mid-week game on Wednesday, Apr. 24 at 3 p.m.
