In one of the best all around games of the Bobcats' season, West Virginia Wesleyan came out on fire Saturday, both on the offensive and defensive sides, to give Davis and Elkins College all it could handle but fell 16-12 to end its regular season.
It was a back-and-forth pressure campaign for both teams throughout three quarters. The Senators took the early lead when Emelia Johnson scored two minutes in, then
Makenzi Lewellyn tied it seconds later. Izzie Sevila put Davis and Elkins back up at the 6:22 mark then
Talia Berardo tied it at 4:42, then put the Bobcats up by one with 1:59 left in the first period.
Erin Mobley gave the 'Cats a two-goal advantage a minute later.
Wesleyan gained its greatest point advantage in the second quarter when Lewellyn put the Bobcats up 6-3 with 9:20 before the half but back came the Senators, scoring three consecutive to tie the score at 3:51, then took the lead just before the half when Ke'ya Stevens scored at 2:59.
The third quarter saw similar action with both sides trading goals until 4:14 when the game was tied for the last time at 10-10. The Senators rattled off six unanswered goals to take the advantage to the final whistle.
Goals for the Bobcats were spread around with the team's top three goals scorers Berardo (50), Mobley (38), and Lewellyn (17) with three scores each.
Raveena Navalgund added two goals and
Molly Knackstedt added one.
Wesleyan ends the season 4-12 and 1-7 in the Mountain East Conference and now awaits the seeding for post-season play which will come after the final lacrosse games this weekend.
