As the Softball team hosted senior day at Culpeper field, 5 seniors were recognized during the second to last home series of the season. Game 1 was highlighted by dominating pitching on both sides.
Kendall Stoffel would pitch a 5 hit shutout in 7 innings to hel bring the Bobcats to victory.
Game 1:
Game 1, only lasting 1 hour and 17 minutes, batters would be retired fairly quickly as almost every at bat would have a result within the third or forth pitch of the at bat. Stoffel would collect 7 strikeouts and pitch 7 full innings on 104 pitches. The only run coming across the whole game was in the 6th inning. Gracey Arnod would lead off the inning ripping a double into the outfield.
Emma Jackson would single to right field and put runners on first and third with no outs.
Maya Reyes would pinch-run for
Emma Jackson and get caught stealing at second. On the same play,
Gracey Arnold would score on the throw down to second base making it 1-0 Wesleyan. That would be the only offense in the game as a close 1-0 victory would lead the Bobcats into game 2.
Game 2:
Concord would come out hot in the first inning scoring all 4 of their runs in game 2. The scoring would start with a 2 RBI fielder's choice. A RBi ground out would make it 0-3 Concord and an RBI single would make it 0-4 after the top of the 1st.
Kendall Stoffel would reach on an error to score
Jenna Gomez and cut into the lead and make it 1-4 in the bottom of the first.
Josi Fix would take the loss pitching 2/3rd an inning giving up 3 earned runs.
Kelsi Brown would come in relief and pitch 5.1 innings allowing no runs and collecting two strikeouts. An RBI single in the bottom 6th, from
Brooklyn Osburn, would cut into Concord's lead and make it 2-4. The starting pitcher for Concord would continue and pitch the whole 7 innings allowing 2 earned runs to take them to victory and split the series.
The Softball team will play their final double header series of the season at home against Glenville State Saturday, April 27th starting at 3:00pm.
