Buckhannon, W.Va.- After a long week of game postponing, the Bobcats softball team played the University of Charleston at home in a doubleheader series. The Bobcats would drop both as game 1 was dominated by pitching for the Golden Eagles. In game 2, Wesleyan's bats would catch a spark but lost a close one late in the game.
Game 1:Â
The Bobcats would muster just 3 hits through 7 inning against pitcher Brianna McCown. She would pitch 7 shutout innings allowing 3 hits and collecting 12 strikeouts.
Josi Fix would take the loss pitching 2 innings allowing 4 hits and 2 earned runs. Molliey White would come in relief pitching 3 innings giving up 4 hits and 3 earned runs. Charleston would get two runs in the top of the 2nd on two RBI singles. In the 3rd inning, a SAC fly would bring in another run. A two run home run in th 5th innings and a solo home run in the 6th would grow the Golden Eagle's lead to 6.
Alyssa Rohr,
Andie Dizon, and
Gracey Arnold would collect the only hits for the Bobcats.
Kelsi Brown would come in to pitch the last two innings allowing only 1 hit and 0 earned runs.Â
Game 2:Â
The Golden Eagles would strike fast in the top of the 1st inning having four runs come in to score. Some costly infield errors for Wesleyan allowed those runs to score in the 1st inning. A big moment in the game was bottom of the 5th inning.
Alyssa Rohr would hit a single to start the inning off.
Jenna Gomez would follow with a single putting runners on first and second with no outs. A walk from
Sydney Leadbetter would later load the bases with 1 out.
Gracey Arnold would rope a single to the right side scoring
Alyssa Rohr to make it 1-4. Freshman,
Emma Jackson would come to the dish and smash a ball over the left field fence for a grand slam and put the Bobcats infront, 5-4. Charleston would answer back in the top of the 6th with a RBI single to tie it at 5-5. In the top of the 7th inning, a 2 RBI single would put Charleston up 5-7.Â
The Bobcats will host the Yellow Jackets of West Virginia State University for a doubleheader Monday, April 8th after the solar eclipse starting at 5pm.Â
