Buckhannon, W.Va.- The Wesleyan softball team would go run-less in both games to West Virginia State as they would leave 6 runners on base in game 1. The Yellow Jackets would capitalize on fielding errors by the Bobcats to sneak out both wins with little offense on either side.
Game 1:
Pitcher,
Josi Fix, would pitch a complete game no hitter in game 1 she would give up 1 earned run on a SAC fly in the 6th inning. The Bobcats would tally five fielding errors throughout the game to keep the Yellow Jackets in it. A SAC fly in the 6th would break the 0-0 tie and put the Yellow Jackets ahead. In the top of the 7th, two base runners would reach on fielding errors in the infield. With a runner on 3rd base and two outs, the second run for the Yellow Jackets would score on a fielding error at second base to make it 0-2 going into the bottom of the 7th inning. The bottom of the 7th would start with a walk from
Emma Jackson. A passed ball would move the runner to second base with no outs. A fielding error by the yellow jackets would put runners on 1st and 3rd with no outs. The Bobcats would pinch hit the next three batters and they would all be retired to end the game.
Game 2:
Kendall Stoffel would take the rubber in game 2 and pitch 7 innings giving up 5 hits, 1 earned run, and collecting 4 strikeouts. The Bobcats would collect 7 hits but a similar story of runner left on base as 9 would be left on base in game 2. The only runs of the game would come in the top of the 7th inning. Offensively,
Brooklyn Osburn would go 3-3 at the plate for the Bobcats and Carlee Ianonne going 2-3 proved to be the consistent bats for the lineup. In the top of the 7th, the Yellow Jackets would start things off with a double. The runner would advance to third on a wild pitch. Base running fo the Yellow Jackets proved to be their edge. With a runner on third and no outs, the next batter would walk and the runner would advance to second drawing the attention of the Bobcat's defense. A throw down to second would score the runner from third base making it 0-1 West Virginia State. Later in the inning, the yellow jackets would get two more runners on base from an error and fielders choice. A SAC fly would score another run to make it 0-2. The Bobcats would lead off the bottom of the 7th with a single from
Brooklyn Osburn and the next three batters would be retired to end the game.
The Bobcats will play Wheeling University at home, April 13 for a double header starting at 2 p.m.
