Game Recap: Women's Volleyball |

Volleyball Goes 2-2 at Concord Tournament

Athens, W.Va.- The Lady Bobcats would trave down to Concord University to participate in their last tournament weekend before MEC play begins in the beginning of October. They would go 2-2 beating Bluefield State University and Pikeville, while falling to Davis and Elkins and Virginia State University. The team currently sits at 9-4 and will look to take their momenteum into conferecne play. 


Bluefield State University: 3-0 
A clean sweep in game 1 proved to show balance offensively and defensively for the Bobcats. Offensively, Olivia Albrecht led the team with 15 kills followed by Jayla Cowherd and Bhrooke Axe with 7 kills each. Axe would also record 6 blocks in game 1. Faith Grafton would lead the back line with 10 digs as well as 5 serving aces. Alexis Moeschler would record 9 digs and setter, Jalynn West would collect 7 digs along with her 35 assists. 


Davis and Elkins: 2-3 
The Bobcats would get to face the Senators of Davis and Elkins, a conference rival, early in the year. Each team battled back and forth alternating winning sets until Davis and Elkins would take set 5, 15-9. Key performers for the Bobcats included Emily Denison with 13 kills and 4 blocks. Bhrooke Axe would record 11 kills and 3 blocks. Alexis Moeschler would have 15 digs and 2 serving aces. 


Pikeville: 3-1 
Weslyean would lose a close first set 23-25, but then comeback to win the next 3 sets, ending the match in set 4 winning 25-23. Senior, Jayla Cowherd and Sophmore, Olivia Albrecht would led the Bobcats offensively with 14 kills each. Alexis Moeschler would record a season high 26 digs as well as, 3 aces and 6 assists. Emily Denison would contribute defensively with 11 digs and 5 blocks. Setter, Jalynn West would tally 46 assists. 

Virginia State University: 0-3
The Bobctas would close out the weekend against a tough CIAA opponent in the Trojans of Virginia State. Sets 1 and 3 would both be lossed by a 2 point scoring deferential and proved to be a toughly played match by both teams. Bhrooke Axe and Sabrina Carleton would led the Bobcats with 7 kill each. Alauna Wilson would record 3 serving aces as well as 6 kills. Alexis Moeschler would record 12 digs, 1 serving ace, and 3 assists. 


The Bobcats will face the Tigers of Salem University for the third time this season at Salem on Friday, September 27th, at 7:00pm.
