Softball Falls In Extras

In a tightly contested battle, Edinboro emerged victorious over WV Wesleyan in an extra-inning thriller, claiming a 5-4 win in eight innings on Tuesday.

The game started with a bang for WV Wesleyan, who capitalized early. In the bottom of the first, Andie Dizon fouled out, but Alyssa Rohr raced home on a throwing error by Edinboro's third baseman. Gracie Arnold followed with a clutch triple down the right-field line, driving in Ella Fournier to give the home team a 2-0 lead.

The visitors from Edinboro answered in the fourth inning. Bella Becker's bunt single, combined with a fielding error by WV Wesleyan's first baseman, allowed Isabella Bavaro to score, cutting the deficit to 3-1.

WV Wesleyan extended their lead in the fifth when Kendall Stoffel grounded out to third, bringing in Dizon from third base to make it 4-1. However, Edinboro wasn't done yet. In the sixth, Bavaro roped a double to left-center, scoring Cassidy Weller, closing the gap to 4-2.

The real drama unfolded in the final two innings. Edinboro tied the game in the seventh thanks to Addy Maguire's trip to right-center, bringing home Weller and Emily Thomas to even the score at 4-4.

With the game heading into extra innings, Edinboro completed their comeback in the eighth. After a lead off single by Becker, a couple of well-executed base runners advanced her to second, and a subsequent single by Becker brought in Bavaro and Weller to score, putting Edinboro ahead 5-4.

The bottom of the eighth saw WV Wesleyan threaten, but they couldn't capitalize, as Edinboro's pitcher, Grace Kessel, closed the door with an efficient inning, securing the win for her team.

WV Wesleyan's pitcher, Kendall Stoffel, took the loss after pitching all seven innings, allowing five runs (three earned) on 14 hits. On the other hand, Edinboro's Kessel earned the win after relieving starter Giana Ficcaglia, who pitched four innings, and keeping the damage to a minimum in the extra frame.

At the plate, Gracie Arnold had a standout performance for WV Wesleyan, going 3-for-4 with two triples and two RBIs. Dizon also contributed with a pair of singles. For Edinboro, Isabelle Bavaro was a key contributor, going 3-for-4 with an RBI and two runs scored. Maguire and Becker added vital hits, with Maguire scoring the game-tying run in the seventh and driving in the go-ahead runs in the eighth.

Despite a strong offensive start, WV Wesleyan couldn't hold off Edinboro's late surge, leading to their disappointing loss in extra innings.
