Baseball Drops Game 1 To Frostburg State 3-8

The game began with some early back-and-forth action. Frostburg State took a 2-0 lead in the first inning, thanks to a two-run, unearned homer by D. McNew, scoring M. Guy. West Virginia Wesleyan responded in the bottom half of the frame, as T. Poteat doubled home E. Fraley to make it 2-1.


Frostburg extended its lead in the fifth inning. McNew singled home Guy, followed by a sacrifice fly from J. Holler that brought in McNew, pushing the lead to 4-1. The Bobcats then exploded for a five-run inning in the sixth. M. Hall delivered a grand slam, bringing in J. Schalick, B. Scott, and C. Carmichae, unearned. The blast put Frostburg up 8-1.


West Virginia Wesleyan mounted a small rally in the sixth inning, scoring two runs. A single by Alex Smith drove in Grant Shumaker, and a sacrifice fly by Kohei Fujishita brought in Thatcher Poteat, cutting the deficit to 8-3. However, the Bobcats' offense could not produce any further runs, and Frostburg held strong to secure the win.
