Softball Recap: WV Wesleyan 4, Bemidji State 1
WV Wesleyan secured a solid 4-1 victory over Bemidji State in a well-played game at the Spring Games.Â
The first scoring play came in the third inning when Bemidji State's Mariah Stevenson doubled to left field, bringing home Christenson for a 1-0 lead.
WV Wesleyan responded in the fourth inning to tie the game. Madison Austra led off with a single to center, driving in Kendall Stoffel, and Andie Dizon added another run by scoring off a throw to make it 1-1.
The game remained tied until the seventh inning, where WV Wesleyan broke it open with three runs. First, Dizon doubled to center, driving in Jaylynn Hodge to give WV Wesleyan a 2-1 lead. Then, Kendall Stoffel delivered with a two-RBI double to shortstop, scoring Dizon and Hallie Dinklocker for the 4-1 advantage.
WV Wesleyan's Morgan Greene was impressive in the circle, earning the win with a complete game performance. She allowed just one run on seven hits while striking out seven and walking none. Greene was efficient, needing only 93 pitches to close out the victory.
Andie Dizon was a standout for WV Wesleyan, finishing 2-for-4 with an RBI and a run scored. Kendall Stoffel also had a key 2-RBI double, going 2-for-4 at the plate. For Bemidji State, Mariah Stevenson went 2-for-3 with an RBI, but it wasn't enough to overcome the late explosion by WV Wesleyan.
