BUCKHANNON, W.Va. – West Virginia Wesleyan College is proud to announce the hiring of Jason Westfall as the new head coach of the Bobcat men's and women's golf programs. A native of Buckhannon and a former Wesleyan standout, Westfall brings a deep connection to the community, a proven coaching background, and a strong history of success both on the court and the course.
Westfall is no stranger to Buckhannon or West Virginia Wesleyan College. A graduate of Buckhannon-Upshur High School (BUHS), he earned multiple honors in both basketball and golf, including 1996–97 All-NCAC, 1996–97 All-State, and 1997 NCAC Conference Player of the Year.
At Wesleyan, Westfall competed for legendary head coach Charlie Miller from 1997–2001, earning WVIAC All-Freshman honors in 1997 and a spot in the prestigious Bobcat 1500 Club, scoring over 1,000 points and pulling down more than 500 rebounds in his career. He graduated in 2005 with a Bachelor of Arts in Public Relations.
In addition to his playing career, Westfall has built a strong reputation as a coach at his alma mater.
BUHS Boys Basketball Coach (2022–present):
o 2022: Guided the Bucs to the Region I Final.
o 2023: Recorded 16 wins, the most in 20 years, including a championship at the Strasburg HS Christmas Classic (Virginia).
BUHS Golf Coach (2018–2024):
o Captured the Route 33 Cup (2019, 2020, 2021, 2022).
o Led BUHS to the 2020 WV State Tournament, finishing 8th in WV Class 3A.
o Named 2021 Big X Coach of the Year after guiding the team to the Big X Conference Championship.
o Qualified an individual for the 2021 WV State Tournament.
Vice President for Athletics Rae Emrick celebrated the hiring, noting Westfall's competitive background and leadership experience.
"We're thrilled to welcome Coach Westfall back to Wesleyan," said Emrick. "He knows what it means to be a Bobcat, and his coaching record demonstrates the ability to build winning teams while developing student-athletes on and off the course."
Westfall expressed enthusiasm about the opportunity to return to his college home.
"I've always wanted to coach at the college level, and an opportunity came," remarked Westfall. "I didn't want to pass it up. There are memories and some sense of familiarity returning to Wesleyan. There are some folks I know, but everyone has been so welcoming."
