BRIDGEPORT, W.Va. — Frostburg State University and the University of Charleston have been picked as the divisional favorites for the 2026 Mountain East Conference baseball season, the league announced Tuesday afternoon. The MEC Baseball Preseason Poll was compiled via a vote of the league's 11 head coaches.
Frostburg State was picked to win the North Division and received 8 first-place votes. The Bobcats finished 36-17 overall and 18-10 in MEC play. Frostburg State's season ended in a loss to Fairmont State in the MEC Baseball Tournament..
Point Park University received three first-place votes, and was picked to finish second in the North ahead of Fairmont State, West Liberty and Wheeling. The Pioneers won the 2025 MEC Championship, after finishing 41-13 overall and went 22-6 in league play.
In the South, Charleston earned eight out of the 11 first place votes. The Golden Eagles capped off the 2025 campaign with a 25-27 mark overall, and a 16-14 record in league play. Charleston was selected to finish ahead of Concord, West Virginia State, Glenville State, West Virginia Wesleyan and Davis and Elkins. Additionally, Concord received two first place votes while West Virginia State earned one.
The MEC Preseason Baseball Poll is selected by a vote of the league's 11 head coaches.Coaches were not permitted to vote for their own team.
