CANTON, Ohio — The West Virginia Wesleyan College men's and women's swimming teams demonstrated determination, resilience, and continued progress at the 2026 Great Midwest Athletic Conference (GMAC) and Mountain East Conference (MEC) Swimming Championships, held February 10–13 at the C.T. Branin Natatorium.
West Virginia Wesleyan finished
ninth overall in the men's team standings with 255 points and 10th in the women's standings with 26 points
The Bobcats were led by a core group of swimmers who competed across individual and relay events.
Aaron Dworsky emerged as one of Wesleyan's most consistent performers, competing in multiple individual and relay events. He recorded a
55.42 finish in the 100-yard backstroke finals. He also delivered strong swims in sprint freestyle and relay events, including contributing to Wesleyan's medley relay and posting competitive performances in the 50-yard freestyle preliminaries and finals.
Yigit Ataman delivered one of the Bobcats' strongest individual performances of the championship in the breaststroke events. He qualified for the finals of the
100-yard breaststroke with an impressive preliminary time of 56.05. He also played a key role in Wesleyan's medley relay, contributing a strong breaststroke leg to the team's overall performance.
Alex Cedillo contributed as an integral member of Wesleyan's relay team, swimming the butterfly leg of the Bobcats'
200-yard medley relay, helping the team secure a scoring finish against conference competition.
Ryan Guerron anchored Wesleyan's medley relay and also competed in sprint freestyle events. He recorded a
26.35 performance in the 50-yard freestyle finals, while also contributing to relay success.
Steve Escobedo gained valuable championship experience competing in the
50-yard freestyle, recording a time of 27.98 in the preliminaries and advancing to finals competition. He also competed in sprint events later in the meet, continuing to build experience at the conference championship level.
The Bobcats' men's relay team of Dworsky, Ataman, Cedillo, and Guerron posted a time of
1:41.84 in the 200-yard medley relay, finishing ninth overall.
As the Bobcats' only women's team entry,
Bre Waldron represented Wesleyan in the demanding distance freestyle events, delivering a strong performance in the
1000-yard freestyle with a time of 11:30.13, finishing 19th overall.
