Bobcats Split Doubleheader with WVU Tech at GoMart Ballpark

West Virginia Wesleyan split a nonconference doubleheader with WVU Tech on Tuesday at GoMart Ballpark in Charleston, W.Va., taking the opener 5–2 before the Golden Bears claimed the nightcap 12–1.

Game One — Wesleyan 5, WVU Tech 2
The Bobcats wasted little time generating offense in the first inning. Coleman Cross singled to center to begin the game and later scored when a wild pitch allowed him to cross the plate. Moments later, Alex Smith lined an RBI single to right field that plated Matt Neach, giving Wesleyan a 2–0 lead. The Bobcats added another run later in the inning when Malik Wood drew a bases-loaded walk, pushing the advantage to 3–0.

WVU Tech answered with a run in the bottom half of the frame on an RBI single from Nolan Copeland, trimming the lead to 3–1.

Wesleyan extended the margin in the third inning when Cross reached on an error that allowed Wood to score, making it 4–1. The Bobcats added an insurance run in the fifth as Grant Shumaker delivered an RBI single to center that brought home Dylan Neach.

On the mound, Wesleyan's pitching staff combined to limit WVU Tech's offense despite eight hits. Drew Evans earned the win after working the opening inning, allowing one run while striking out one. Drake Long delivered the bulk of the work in relief, tossing five innings and surrendering just one run while striking out four. Anthony Hernandez closed the door with a scoreless seventh inning.

Smith and Isaac Lough each recorded two hits to pace Wesleyan's seven-hit effort, while Shumaker and Cross each drove in a run.

Game Two — WVU Tech 12, Wesleyan 1
WVU Tech erupted for six runs in both the first and fourth innings to claim the nightcap 12–1.
Wesleyan struck first in the opening inning. After Coleman Cross reached base and advanced around the diamond, he scored on a steal of home during a double steal with Grant Shumaker, giving the Bobcats an early 1–0 advantage.

The Golden Bears quickly responded with a six-run first inning, capitalizing on walks and timely hits. RBI contributions from Nate Wolfe, Carson Crigger, Carson Brown, and Zachary Hunt highlighted the frame as WVU Tech surged ahead 6–1.

WVU Tech added another six-run outburst in the fourth inning. Wolfe sparked the rally with a two-run double, Crigger followed with an RBI double, and additional run-scoring hits from Brayden Kiblinger and Mason Everhart extended the lead to 12–1.

The Bobcats managed five hits in the contest, with Shumaker, Donovan Camacho, Isaac Lough, Hank Humbert, and Malik Wood each recording base knocks. Wesleyan also received scoreless relief work from Adiel Rivera and Cullen Cairns, who combined to keep WVU Tech off the board over the final two innings.

Wesleyan begins its Mountain East Conference schedule with a pair of games against Point Park University in Pittsburgh. Game time is set for Saturday, Mar. 14 at 1 p.m.
