WINTER HAVEN, Fla. — West Virginia Wesleyan wrapped up its appearance at the RussMatt Central Florida Invitational on Friday morning, falling to Minnesota Crookston, 8–1, at the Chain of Lakes Complex.
 
The Bobcats managed just three hits on the day while the Golden Eagles capitalized on early scoring opportunities and aggressive baserunning to build a lead they would not relinquish.
 
Wesleyan struck first in the top of the second inning. Matt Neach drew a walk and later scored when Carter Collins ripped an RBI double to left field, giving the Bobcats a 1–0 advantage.
 
Minnesota Crookston answered immediately in the bottom half of the inning. After loading the bases, Tori Uhlich delivered a two-run double to left field that flipped the lead to the Golden Eagles at 2–1.
 
The Golden Eagles continued to apply pressure in the third inning, using a combination of speed and timely hitting to stretch the margin. A stolen-base sequence and a throwing error allowed one run to score before RBI contributions from Nate Heymann and a bases-loaded walk pushed the lead to 5–1. Minnesota Crookston added another run in the fourth inning on a sacrifice fly by Elias Leach, extending the advantage to 6–1.
 
Wesleyan's bullpen steadied things midway through the game. Bryson Peffer worked three strong innings in relief, allowing just two hits while striking out four batters to keep the Bobcats within reach.
 
The Golden Eagles, however, put the game away in the eighth inning. After loading the bases, a wild pitch plated one run and a double-play ground ball allowed another to score, pushing the final margin to 8–1.
 
On the mound, Liam Sharer took the loss for the Bobcats after allowing six runs over four innings. Peffer was followed by Nolan Slaughter and Adiel Rivera, with Rivera finishing the eighth inning without allowing a hit.
 
Offensively, Collins led Wesleyan with the team's lone RBI on his second-inning double. Grant Smith and Alex Smith each recorded a hit, while the Bobcats drew five walks but were unable to string together sustained offense against Minnesota Crookston starter Ashton Detloff, who earned the win with five innings of two-hit pitching.
 
Minnesota Crookston collected eight hits in the contest, highlighted by two hits and three RBIs from Uhlich and a two-hit performance from Elias Leach.
 
With the result, Wesleyan moves to 3–10 overall, concluding its week of competition at the RussMatt Central Florida Invitational.
