Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Monaselidze Wins It For the Bobcats

Buckhannon, WV -- West Virginia Wesleyan Men's Soccer defeated Notre Dame College on Sunday afternoon on the foot of Nika Monaselidze. The Sophomore Midfielder delivered home the game-winner in the overtime period off a cross from teammate Luca Falconieri. In a game that featured 20 total shots, only the final one found the back of the net today in Buckhannon.

Sunday's game was not only an exciting one, it had a big impact on the Mountain East Conference standings. The result locks the Bobcats into sole possession of 2nd place, with a record of 6-1-1, and their overall record improves to 7-2-1.

With the loss, Notre Dame drops down to 3rd place in the MEC with a record of 6-2-1, and their overall record moves to 6-3-1.

Republic of Georgia native Nika Monaselidze's second goal of the week was the deciding factor in Sunday's matchup of top MEC teams. In the overtime period, Senior M Luca Falconieri took the ball down the flank and crossed it into Notre Dame's box, where Monaselidze flew out of the crowd of defenders to rifle it into the back of the net. The celebration was indicative of how important this game was for the Bobcats, and both teams battled for over 90 minutes. Junior Joshua Tenney and Sophomore Javier De Ona Garcia were also able to put shots on net over the course of the game. The Bobcats defense was stout all afternoon, as Freshman Goalkeeper Jeremy Collins was not even forced to make a save.

For Notre Dame, Senior M Arthur Favero and Junior M Niklas Bohlin were able to get off 5 and 3 shots, respectively. Senior GK Daniele De Angelis played the duration of the game and made 3 saves. Notre Dame had a chance to win it in overtime, as their build up play led to a great shooting opportunity that ended up clanking off the goalpost.

Wesleyan will look to extend their 5 game undefeated streak this upcoming Thursday, when they travel to Western Ohio to take on the Urbana Blue Knights. Notre Dame will try and push their way back up to the top of the MEC standings on Thursday when they host Davis & Elkins in South Euclid, OH.
