Men's and Women's Swimming Place Third at Malone Invitational

Assfeld Shines Among Many Strong Performances

Canton, OH -- West Virginia Wesleyan Men's and Women's Swimming made the trip to Ohio on Saturday to participate in the Malone Invitational. There were eight schools present on the Women's side, and seven on the Men's. Overall, each of Wesleyan's teams placed third overall at the invitational, and they will head back to Buckhannon excited about a handful of strong individual performances.

The star of Saturday was Arthur Assfeld. The junior from France grabbed two first place finishes at the Malone Invitational, in the 100-Yard Freestyle and the 50-Yard Butterfly. Having already won a Mountain East Conference Swimmer of the Week honor this season, Assfeld will be a strong contender for first place finishes come the MEC Championships. Those were the only two first place finishes of the day for the 'Cats, but staying on the Men's side, Michael McAlpine placed second in both the 50-Yard Backstroke and the 100-Yard Backstroke. Assfeld also finished third in the 100-Yard Butterfly. The top relay finish for Wesleyan on Saturday also came from the Men, placing second in the 200-Yard Freestyle Relay.

For the Lady Bobcats, there were two second place finishes on Saturday. Gigi Fusco placed second in the 200-Yard Butterfly, and Amanda Schlor did the same in the 100-Yard Backstroke. Sarah Noll also added a third place finish in the 50-Yard Backstroke.

Next up for Wesleyan Swimming is a trip back to Ohio this upcoming weekend for the Corbiere-Merion Invitational. That meet is held at Ohio Wesleyan University, and will span both Saturday and Sunday.
