Recap

The joint GMAC/MEC Swimming Championships took place at Malone University February 12th through the 15th. The University of Findlay successfully defended their title on the Men's side, and the Women's side saw a new champion in Hillsdale College. Although the Wesleyan Men finished seventh, and the Women sixth, there were a handful of top performers from both teams who found their way to the podium this week. Arthur Assfeld lived up to the expectation of being one of the top sprint swimmers at the event, placing third (50 Free), fourth (100 Back), and third (100 Free) in his individual events. He also teamed up with Logan Knoyer, Michael McAlpine, and Marc Bennett to form one of the events best Men's relay teams. The group found their way to the podium three times this week, finishing second (200 Free), third (800 Free), and third (400 Free). Michael McAlpine also added two top five finishes of his own, in the 100 Fly (fifth) and the 500 Free (fifth). 

On the Women's side, no Lady 'Cat reached the podium, but the depth of the team performance helped them secure the third best finish out of all Mountain East Conference schools at the event. Amanda Schlor (eighth in the 800 IM), and Kay Lange (sixth in the 200 Breast) had the top individual event finishes out of all Lady 'Cats swimmers. Schlor and Lange, along with Gigi Fusco and Morgan Choffin placed fifth in the 400 Medley Relay. Lange, Fusco, and Choffin, along with Lillie Archer, placed sixth in the 800 Free Relay.

The Mountain East Conference awards their All-Conference selections to the top three MEC-finishers in any event, regardless of overall finish combined with GMAC athletes. In total, Wesleyan Swimming will take home eighteen All-MEC selections for their performances this week at the Championships.
