Bobcats and Falcons Set to Battle for MEC Positioning

Matchup

West Virginia Wesleyan will host Notre Dame (OH) on Wednesday night at 7:30 in the Rockefeller Center. The last time these two teams met, the Bobcats pulled off a twenty-point comeback in the second half to knock off the Falcons in their home gym. This time around, the Bobcats would like nothing more than to start and finish with the lead, and not have to play catch-up with fast-paced offense. The outcome of Wednesday's game will have a direct impact on the final Mountain East Conference standings, as it appears that it will be Wheeling, Wesleyan, and Notre Dame battling for that desired sixth seed in the MEC Tournament to avoid a play-in game. Already a game up on the Falcons in record, and head-to-head, Coach Nick Patella and the 'Cats can distance themselves from a competitor for that position with a home win on Wednesday night in front of the home faithful.

Key Statistics

Notre Dame and Wesleyan have almost identical rebounding numbers per game:
Offensive (9.8, 9.8) Defensive (25.5, 24.8), respectively.
Notre Dame's Levi Frankland and Drew Scarberry both rank among the top six in the MEC in three-point shooting percentage, and three-pointers made per game.
Levi Frankland leads the MEC in minutes per game (36.6).
Luka Petrovic is currently second in the MEC in assists per game (5.3).

Storylines

After falling flat in the second half against West Liberty, Wesleyan must respond by playing a full forty minute game on Wednesday. They have an opportunity to bury a competitor in their chase for the sixth seed, and do it at home, with only four games remaining in the Rockefeller Center this season. Notre Dame will be looking to avenge their home loss to the Bobcats earlier this season, one they believe they shouldn't have let be decided in overtime. Luka Petrovic was great last week for Coach Nick Patella, leading the Bobcats in scoring on Wednesday and Saturday, and finishing two rebounds and two assists shy of a triple-double on Saturday. When the Serbian senior is distributing the ball, and working a successful two man game with Dusan Vicentic, the Bobcats have an offensive weapon that is not easy to defend.
