The Basics
The West Virginia Wesleyan men's basketball team is scheduled to travel to Athens, W.Va to face Concord on Wednesday (Jan. 13) at approximately 7:30 p.m. before returning home to Rockefeller Center on Saturday (Jan. 16) to play host to Glenville State at 4 p.m.Â

The West Virginia Wesleyan College Athletics Department in conjunction with the Mountain East Conference, University, local and state officials, has determined that home basketball games will begin the season with a no spectator policy. The no spectator policy will be followed at each of the 12 Mountain East Conference institutions.

The conference's Board of Directors will evaluate the no spectator policy no earlier than January 19, 2021. If changes to the policy are approved later this month, the Athletics Department will provide an update at that time.

Nick Patella enters his second season as the West Virginia Wesleyan head coach. Prior to WVWC, Patella served as the head coach of nearby Davis & Elkins for four years. The Elkins, W. Va., native played basketball at West Virginia University under John Beilein from 2002-05 and was a member of the 2004-05 Mountaineers Elite Eight team. He began his coaching career as a graduate assistant at WVWC.Â
• The Bobcats dropped their season opener on Thursday night (Jan. 7) to nationally-ranked Fairmont State, 110-85. Three Bobcats scored in double digits:
Ross Young (12), Jaret Muloolly (12) and
Jaylin Reed (10).Â
• Wesleyan erased a 15-point second half deficit, but lost 81-77 at Frostburg State on Sunday (Jan. 10). Reed scored a career-high 22 points while Young compiled a double-double of 13 points and 10 rebounds. Lee was a rebound away from a double-double finishing with 14 points and nine boards.Â

Scouting Concord
The Mountain Lions finished the 2019-20 campaign 12-18 overall and 8-14 in Mountain East play. Concord is off to a 1-1 start during the 2020-21 season after outlasting Charleston in a defensive stalemate, 64-62 on Thursday (Jan. 7) before losing at West Virginia State on Sunday (Jan. 10) by a final score of 89-74.Â

Senior guard Malik Johnson scored eight points down the stretch last Thursday to key Concord's close win at Charleston. Johnson followed the game-changing effort with a career-high 23 points against West Virginia State.Â

Belgium native David Mulumba has been a force inside for the Mountain Lions having notched a double-double of 12 points and 12 rebounds in the opener at Charleston.Â

Todd May enters his fifth season as the head coach at Concord. Before taking the reins of the program, May spent four years as the assistant coach for the Mountain Lions. His overall record at Concord sits at 61-59.Â

Scouting Glenville State
Glenville State finished last season at 14-15 overall and 11-11 against conference opponents. The Pioneers are off to a 2-0 start during the 2020-21 season after a pair of close victories (117-114 at West Virginia State and 72-70 at home against Charleston).Â

Junior guard Nicholas Edwards was named MEC Player of the Week after week one of the 2020-21 season. Edwards scored 19 points along with eight rebounds and eight assists against West Virginia State. He scored 19 points and dished out eight assists again to go along with five crucial steals versus Charleston.Â

Senior guard Hegel Augustin went off for 40 points and 13 rebounds to open the season. He drilled eight 3-pointers to help the Pioneers past West Virginia State.Â

Justin Caldwell enters his third season as the head coach at Glenville State. His overall head coaching record is 27-32. Prior to taking the helm of the Pioneer program, Caldwell served as the assistant coach at California University of Pennsylvania. Caldwell was one the top scorers in the nation as a player. He spent his first three years at West Virginia Wesleyan and amassed nearly 1,400 points as a Bobcat before playing his senior year at Glenville State.Â
