MORGANTOWN, W.Va. -- The West Virginia Wesleyan men's and women's swimming teams wrapped up the first official event of the 2021-22 season at the West Virginia State Games. Both days of the event were hosted by West Virginia University inside the Aquatic Center at Mylan Park on Saturday (Oct. 9).
The WVWC men competed in the 400-medley relay with the relay squad of Devan Kuttan,
Marc Bennett, Santiago De Stefano Cavazos and
Jackson Igo finishing with a time of 4:06.92.
Morgan Choffin (58.63), Alayna Crane (1:00.07),
Alienor Dalle (1:00.47),
Lillie Archer (1:01.58),
Morgan Bennet (1:02.89),
Jennifer Williams (1:03.90),
Ashley Downes (1:13.72) and
Julia O'Neill (1:20.71) all kicked off their days in the pool with the 100-free.
Jakob Bohland touched the wall first for the men's team in the 100-free at 52.07 with de Stefano Cavazos (54.28) not far behind.
Ben Esposito (55.60) and
Stephen Groves (56.54) rounded out the Bobcats in the event.
A pair of Bobcats,
Amanda Schlor (2:20.39) and
Hannah Cook (2:26.34) finished sixth and 10
th respectively in the 200-back. On the men's side in the 200-back, Kuttan finished with a time of 2:15.37 while Nick Gerosa turned in a time of 2:21.56.
Williams (2:51.07) and Crane (2:59.70) competed in the women's 200-breaststroke. Bennett (2:29.37), Esposito (2:34.50) and Groves (2:45.14) raced in the 200-breaststroke. Archer (6:14.64) was the only Bobcat woman to compete in the 500-free. In the men's 500-free race, Bohland logged a time of 5:32.51 as Gerosa (5:37.69) and Kuttan (5:43.32) also battled.
Dalle earned seventh place in the 100-fly after a time of 1:03.46. Bennet (1:17.21) and Fusco (1:18.20) finished neck-and-neck. In the men's 100-fly, Bennett (59.60), Bohland (1:01.11) and Esposito (1:01.64) were all close together.
Choffin (2:23.72), Schlor (2:28.08) and Cook (2:29.45) finished near each other as well in the 200-IM with Williams registering a time of 2:40.84. Bennett led the way in the men's 200-IM with a time of 2:11.74. De Stefano Cavazos (2:18.73), Kuttan (2:22.25) and Groves (2:24.95) continued their busy days.
The final event of the day was the 200-free relay. The team of Cook, Bennet, Dalle and Schlor grabbed fourth place with a time of 1:48.38.Up next for WVWC swimming is the MEC Relay Meet on Saturday, Oct. 16 in Canton, Ohio.
