CANTON, OHIO -- The West Virginia Wesleyan swimming program was back in action on Wednesday (March 31) for day two of the MEC/GMAC championships at the C.T. Branin Natatorium.

Michael McAlpine battled his way to a top-four finish in the 500-free, finishing 11 tenths of a second slower than the third-place competitor. McAlpine touched the wall in 4:44.89 to continue his impressive performance so far in the championships.

In the 50-free,
Arthur Assfeld was the top performer representing the Mountain East Conference. Assfeld finished with a time of 21.31, which was good for third place in the event.
Jakob Bohland swam the 500-free and cut over three seconds off of his prelim time at 5:07.37.
The men's 400-medley relay of Bohland, Devan Kuttan, Mikel Mugarza Pascual and
Nathan Swalley collected a time of 3:40.54. In the 200-IM,
Marc Bennett improved his prelim time by touching the wall in 1:59.43. Mugarza Pascual trimmed off nearly two seconds from his prelim time with a performance of 2:02.77 in the 200-IM.Â

On the women's side, in the 200-IM
Alyssa Serrano and
Amanda Schlor finished back-to-back with Schlor touching the wall just 12 tenths of a second slower than Serrano. Serrano touched the wall in 2:19.66 and Schlor finished with a time of 2:19.74.
Hannah Cook finished the 200-IM with a time of 2:22.31.Â
Lange finished the 500-free in 5:21.65 while
Morgan Choffin and
Lillie Archer turned in times of 5:20.40 and 5:41.84.Â

In the 400-medley relay, the team consisting of Schlor,
Kay Lange,
Alienor Dalle and
Morgan Choffin took home sixth-place, finishing with a time of 4:09.

After day two, the women's team moved up into fifth place, accumulating 229 points. The men have dropped to seventh, amassing 292 points along the way.

The Bobcats will look to make a jump in the standings tomorrow during day three of the championships.
