Women's Soccer Preview: Concord & West Virginia State

The Bobcats return to Buckhannon to face Concord at 2:30 p.m. at Ross Field.

The Basics
West Virginia Wesleyan women's soccer continues its season with a home game versus Concord on Wednesday (Sept. 14) at 2:30 p.m. at Ross Field. The Bobcats play again on Sunday (Sept. 18) in Institute, W.Va. for a matchup versus the Yellow Jackets of West Virginia State at 6 p.m.
 
Quick Hits
  • Sophomore Kameron Bonneau netted a pair of goals versus Glenville State on Sept. 7 in WVWC's first victory of the season.
  • Freshman Talia Stacy and Ava Badallo both scored their first collegiate goals versus GSU.
  • Beth Burchett and Natalia Roppolo were named captains of the 2022 squad. Burchett scored the lone goal for WVWC versus Slippery Rock in the season opener. Burchett leads the team with Hannah Murphy in the shots on goal category with four.
  • Murphy, Sydney Vilain, Ally Moore and Maggie Queen have all dished out assists this season. Moore, the WVWC goalkeeper, has made 12 saves in four games played.
  • Richard Owens begins his fifth season in charge of WVWC women's soccer. Lauren Baumgartner, a Bobcat soccer alum, starts her first season as an assistant coach.
Scouting Concord
The Mountain Lions opened up conference play losing matches to West Virginia State and Davis & Elkins and dropped out of the United Soccer Coaches national rankings. Despite being 0-2 in MEC play, Concord has outscored opponents 10-6 and is averaging 2.5 goals per game.
 
Australian striker Jayme Millard has racked up seven points in her first four games of the 2022 season. Millard has scored three goals on 11 shots and passed out one assist. Senior Michelle Brogden has tallied a pair of goals and one assist. Veteran goalkeeper Leah Marsh has made 14 saves in three starts.
 
Luke Duffy is in charge of Concord women's soccer. Duffy was tabbed as the men's soccer coach for Concord in 2022.
 
Scouting West Virginia State
The Yellow Jackets have started the 2022 campaign on fire, going undefeated in their first four matches. WVSU knocked off Concord and Glenville State in week one of MEC action. The Yellow Jackets have outscored opponents 13-3 and have scored an average of 3.25 points per game.
 
Fran Soares-Cupertino has eclipsed the double-digit points total mark after four games. Soares-Cupertino has scored five goals on 12 shots. Emma Farrelly has facilitated the WVSU offensive attack and has distributed two assists.
 
Lisa Mann begins her fourth year at the helm of West Virginia State women's soccer. Mann played collegiate soccer at Martin Methodist College (Tenn.).
 
Up Next
The Bobcats are scheduled to welcome Davis & Elkins on Sept. 21. Wesleyan will travel north on I-79 for a game at Fairmont State on Sept. 25.
