Dierlam Nets a Trio of Goals in Bobcats’ First Conference Victory

Hunter Dierlam scored a hat trick in the first half of WVWC’s win over Concord.

BUCKHANNON, W.Va.—Hunter Dierlam's three unanswered goals in the first half gave a boost the West Virginia Wesleyan (2-1-2, 1-1-2) men's soccer team needed to pick up its first conference win over Concord (1-4-2, 0-4-1) on Wednesday (Sept. 14) afternoon at Ross Field.

Dierlam's first goal was assisted by Sam Newell in the 24th minute. The Sacramento, Calif., native struck again in the 36th minute after he tapped a pass from Casey Bunker into the net for his second goal of the day. The junior midfielder completed the hat trick prior to the end of the first half after Newell found him again for his third goal of the afternoon.

In the second half, Louis Cole and Tomas Kelly each chipped in a score for Concord and cut the Bobcat lead to one. Sinasi Emre Deniz answered in the 77th minute with an unassisted goal to give the Bobcats a 4-2 lead. Concord quickly scored in the 78th minute to close the gap to one goal. Wesleyan was able to stave off the Mountain Lions and picked up a 4-3 home win.

Bryant Sheffield made his first start in goal for the Bobcats. The Limestone University transfer from Hesperia, Calif., made five saves.

West Virginia Wesleyan men's soccer will return to Cebe Ross Field on Sunday (Sept. 18) for a match versus West Liberty that begins at 4 p.m.
