West Virginia Wesleyan women's soccer begins Mountain East Conference play with two road contests. The 'Cats begin their week at Glenville State on Wednesday (Sept. 7) for a 7 p.m. kickoff. Wesleyan wraps up the week in the capital city versus Charleston on Sunday (Sept. 11) at 1 p.m.

Quick Hits
- Junior captain Beth Burchett scored the lone goal for WVWC versus Slippery Rock in the season opener. Burchett has totaled two shots on goal this season.
- Burchett and Natalia Roppolo have been selected as captains for the 2022 season. Roppolo, a Martinsburg, W.Va., native, logged 1,044 minutes last season and dished out three assists.
- Paloma Zamora and Kameron Bonneau both racked up a pair of goals in their first season donning a Bobcat uniform. Zamora started in 10 games while Bonneau saw action in 16 games.
- Hannah Murphy begins her second season as a mainstay player of the WVWC back line. The Seaford, Del., native recorded an assist versus Slippery Rock.
- Junior goalkeeper Ally Moore has made five saves in the first two games.
- Richard Owens begins his fifth season in charge of WVWC women's soccer. Lauren Baumgartner, a Bobcat soccer alum, starts her first season as an assistant coach.
Scouting Glenville State
The Pioneers fell to Converse and Bluefield State in their two nonconference meetings. Wednesday's matchup versus Wesleyan will be GSU's first MEC game of the 2022 season.

Sophomore Merel Smets led the Pioneers with four goals in 2021. The Olen, Belgium, native has registered one shot in 85 minutes of competition this season. Mikayla Brown has been tabbed with goaltending duties for GSU. Brown has faced 17 shots and has made eight saves.

J.R. Dodson is in his second season leading Glenville State soccer. Dodson led the Pioneers to a program-high four wins in the 2021 season.

Scouting Charleston
Charleston dropped a pair of games to Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) squads Kutztown and Gannon. The Golden Eagles went 15-6 in 2021 and ripped off 13 MEC wins. UC opens conference play at Davis & Elkins on Wednesday (Sept. 7).

Danish midfielder Laura Vierhout tallied eight goals and three assists in her 2021 campaign. Vierhout was selected to the All-MEC First Team. Huntington, W.Va., product Jordan Maynard has been in net for UC's first two games. Maynard has made eight saves in two games.

The Golden Eagles are managed by 22-year veteran Todd Diuguid. In addition to his coaching duties, Diguid serves as the Senior Associate Athletic Director.
