Swimming Preview: Davis & Elkins

Before returning home, the Bobcats hit the road for competition.

The Basics

The West Virginia Wesleyan men's and women's swimming teams prepare to travel to Elkins on Friday (Jan. 20) for a meet versus Davis & Elkins and return to the Natatorium on Saturday (Jan. 21) to host Davis & Elkins. 

Last Time in the Pool

Sophomore Alayna Crane led the way for the women's team, earning second place in the 100 meter backstroke with a time of 1:15.00 and third place in the 200 meter backstroke with a time of 2:45.21. Jennifer Williams placed third in the 100 meter breaststroke with a 1:15.73, while Ashley Downes came in fourth with a time of 1:20.64. Morgan Bennett secured third place in the 100 meter freestyle with a time of 1:09.24, and Alienor Dalle achieved a top ranking by finishing at 1:16.82 in the 100 meter butterfly. The relay team, consisting of Bennett, Dalle, Annalise Gentilozzi, and Crane, also secured third place in the 400 meter freestyle.

On the men's side, Nick Gerosa placed third in the 100 meter backstroke with a time of 1:09.03 and second in the 200 meter backstroke, finishing at 2:31.92. The men's team outperformed Wheeling but were defeated by Frostburg.

The women's swimming team lost to Wheeling by a score of 159-89 and to Frostburg 183-71. The men's swimming team defeated Wheeling 89-49 but were beaten by Frostburg 212-30.

Scouting Davis & Elkins

The Senators women's team emerged victorious over Salem, with a final score of 125-110. Bry Gollmer stood out in the 1000 yard freestyle, finishing with a time of 12:03.89. Additionally, Becca Rodrigues took first place in the 200 yard IM, clocking in at 2:21.89.

The Senators men's team suffered a loss against the Salem Tigers, with a final score of 150-94. Jiwh Santos got the team off to a strong start by taking first place in the 100 yard backstroke. Enrique Garcia also secured a first place finish in the 100 yard breaststroke, completing the event in under a minute. Geoff Dixon contributed to the team's point total by winning the 200 yard backstroke.

Up Next

The Bobcats will hit the road to Ohio for the MEC Championships from Tuesday (Feb. 7) to Friday (Feb. 10).
