BRIDGEPORT, W.Va. – Following the opening weekend of the 2023-24 Men's and Women's Basketball season, the Mountain East Conference announced its first Basketball Player of the Week honors of the season.

West Virginia Wesleyan's Dieker Padrino was voted the Men's Player of the Week.

Padrino, a graduate student from Bogota, N.J., averaged 28.5 points, 2.0 rebounds, 1.5 assists and 3.0 steals per game as Wesleyan went 1-1 over the weekend at the Joe Retton Classic in Fairmont. Padrino opened the weekend with 32 points on 11-of-16 shooting against Edinboro on Friday evening. He followed up that performance 25 points on Saturday against Bloomsburg. In two games last week, Padrino shot 63 percent from the floor and went 9-of-10 from the free throw line. He made eight 3-pointers.
