BUCKHANNON, W.Va. – West Virginia Wesleyan Men's Basketball will be in Philippi on Saturday to face the Battlers at 4 p.m. inside Rex Pyles Arena. AB beat Wesleyan earlier in the season 78-62 in Buckhannon.
ALDERSON BROADDUS BATTLERS
The Battlers enter (7-13) overall and (5-10) in MEC play. AB lost a heartbreaker to Davis & Elkins on Wednesday 100-98 on the road.
AB sits at the bottom half of the league in many of the statistical categories but have seen a rise in averages over their last four games. The Battlers have found success from three, shooting 35% on the year (7
th MEC).
Jalen Knott is the leading scorer for AB, averaging 18.4 PPG (only 10 games). The Battlers feature five other scorers averaging double figures this season: Jon King (13.1 PPG), Zach Simpkins (11.4 PPG), Sirr Hughes (10.6 PPG), Kobe Tigney (10.4 PPG) and Jalen Collins (10.0 PPG). Coryon Rice leads the Battlers in assists, dishing out 3.1 APG.
Stephen Dye is in his fourth season as Head Coach of Alderson Broaddus. The Battlers made it to the MEC Tournament Semifinals and Jalen Knott won MEC Freshman of the Year under Dye's guidance last season. Prior to AB, Dye served as the Head Coach at Glenville State from 2009-2018. In his tenure with the Pioneers, Dye made it to back-to-back NCAA Tournaments, won the 2015 MEC Championship, and coached 14 All-Conference and two All-Region players. In his collegiate playing career, Dye was WVIAC Freshman of the Year, three time All-Conference and All-Tournament, All-Region, and led the Battlers to a Sweet 16 berth.
WEST VIRGINIA WESLEYAN BOBCATS
The Bobcats enter (2-17) overall and (2-13) in MEC play. Wesleyan took Notre Dame College to the wire on Wednesday, losing 69-63 at home.
WVWC sits at the bottom of the league with the Battlers in many of the statistical categories but have also seen a climb in averages. The Bobcats continue to excel forcing turnovers and getting steals, ranking 2
nd in the MEC Opponent Turnovers (16.5) and 3
rd in Steals at 8.7 SPG.
Darius Green's average sits at 16.9 PPG (9
th MEC) to lead the Bobcats in scoring. Green now ranks 11
th in rebounding at 6.7 RPG and leads the conference in Steals with 2.3 SPG.
Anthony Craven Jr. raised his scoring average to 11.6 PPG after his season-high 23 points against NDC.
