Box Score Buckhannon- Bobcat Men's Soccer was back in action on Sunday evening as they took on the West Liberty Hilltoppers. Wesleyan was looking for their first win of the season.
The Hilltoppers had a great chance at goal in the 3rd minute. West Liberty took a great corner kick that connected with Benardo Vilchi who headed it on goal but was saved by the Wesleyan keeper
Alex Rittenhouse.
George La Matte gave the Bobcats their first scoring chance in the 7th minute when he accepted a through ball from
Dominic Okus. La Matte fired a hard shot to the right corner but the West Liberty keeper was there to deflect it out for a corner.
As the rain started to fall, the teams had back and forth action that resulted in a halftime score of 0-0. WLU had the slight lead at half with 5 shots on goal to Wesleyan's 4.
The first action for Wesleyan in the 2nd half came when
Kazuma Takagi fired a shot in the 54th minutue off a deflected ball outside of the box. The shot would go wide right. The first yellow card of the match happened moments later which was given to Wesleyan's
Andrew Polychroniadis.
The second yellow card of the match went to Wesleyan's
Victor Medellin in the 65th minute. The game would still be tied 0-0 with Wesleyan getting many opportunities for shots midway through the half, but none of them getting on goal.
WLU would get the first goal of the match when Chaz Rodeheaver had a header goal that was assisted off a corner kick from Gerardo Sarmiento. West Liberty 1, Wesleyan 0 with 12 minutes remaining in the game.
The game would get heated in the final minutes as
Victor Medellin was given his second yellow of the match with less than five minutes. He would be ejected from the game.
Wesleyan could not find the back of the net in the final minutes and would fall 1-0. The Bobcats next game will be again be at home on Thursday, September 20th where they take on Concord University. The game is set to start at 7 PM.
