Matlack Breaks Urbana's Heart in V-Day Thriller

Box Score Buckhannon, WV-- The West Virginia Wesleyan Lady Bobcats come into today's match-up against Urbana University with a 4-15 overall record and a 4-11 conference record. As the Blue Knights come into today's contest with a 3-17 overall record and a 3-13 conference record. 

The Blue Knights are coming off of a big win against Shepherd University versus the Lady Bobcats are on a losing streak which they are looking to snap that streak tonight at their own home court. 

At the end of the first quarter, the Lady Bobcats put up nearly 20 shots but struggling to make them fall as they only could connect 5-19 for 26.3%, as the Blue Knights are shooting a more efficient 5-12 for 41.7%. Both team struggling behind the arc as the Bobcats are looking for their first triple and the Blue Knights only connecting once. The Bobcats would be down by 4 but looking to heat up next quarter. 

Going into the half the Lady Bobcats would go on a run and take the lead 27-23. The Lady Bobcats have over half of there points in the points opposed to the outside shooting game of the Blue Knights only have 6 points in the paint. Brittany Stawovy & Victoria Jackson both lead the Lady Bobcats with 7 points each, 3 steals and 3 assists combined. The Lady Bobcats continue to out rebound the Blue Knights 26-16 as they look to continue to keep the momentum going into the third quarter. 

At the beginning of the third quarter the Lady Bobcats would come out strong as Brittany Stawovy comes out stroking two 3-pointers to increase the lead. As the time ticks down in the third quarter the Lady Bobcats would take a 9 point lead (55-46). The Lady Bobcats would put up 53 shots through 30 minutes of play sinking 23 of them. The Lady Bobcats also shot 70.6% (12-17) in the third quarter opposed to the Blue Knights shooting 42.9% (6-14). 

With 5 minutes left in the game the Blue Knights would not go away as they would take the lead (57-55) as the Lady Bobcats have yet to score in the 4th quarter as the Blue Knights would go on a 11-0 run. The game would continue to go back and forth until the final buzzer as it is coming down to the wire. With 22 seconds left in the game Nicole Gilyard would hit a shot the tie up the game, as the Blue Knights would then hold for the last shot of the quarter, with about 10 seconds left Nicole Gilyard would grab the defensive rebound as the Lady Bobcats would have a shot to win the game in regulation time. Summer Matlack would come into the game without having any points and draining the 3 pointer for the Lady Bobcats to go on and win against the Blue Knights.

At the end of the game, the Lady Bobcats would take down the Blue Knights even though they caught fire from three in the 2nd half shooting 60% (6-10). The final score of tonight's match-up would be 67-64. 

Tonight's Lady Bobcat players of the game would be Brittany Stawovy with 18 points, 6 rebounds & 3 assists, Victoria Jackson with 11 points, 5 rebounds & 5 assists, Alexa Szelong with 12 points & 6 rebounds, Abi Gabauer with 10 points, 5 rebounds & 2 assists and Summer Matlack with the game winning 3 pointer.

The Lady Bobcats will be back in action this Saturday with another home game against Notre Dame College, tip-off is at 2:00 PM, come out and support your Lady Bobcats as the season is winding down.
