Women's Basketball Preview: Alderson Broaddus & Notre Dame (Ohio)

WVWC women's basketball welcomes new MEC member Alderson Broaddus to town before traveling to Ohio for a rescheduled game.

The Basics
The West Virginia Wesleyan women's basketball team is scheduled to play host to Alderson Broaddus on Saturday (Jan. 30) at 2 p.m. before traveling to Notre Dame (Ohio) on Monday (Feb. 1) to take on the Falcons at 5 p.m. in a rescheduled game. 
 
Quick Hits
• Wednesday's (Jan. 27) contest at Notre Dame (Ohio) was postponed due to COVID-19 protocols and rescheduled for Monday (Feb. 1) in South Euclid, Ohio. 
• Senior forward Abi Gabauer bested her previous career-high of 24 points that was set her freshman year with 26 points against West Virginia State on Wednesday (Jan. 20). 
• Senior guard Brittany Stawovy recorded the first double-double of her collegiate career after scoring 22 points and pulling in a career-best 13 rebounds against Fairmont State on Monday (Jan. 18).
• Freshman guard Symphonie Bryant-Brown scored 14 points in the first half to finish with a season and career-high of 18 points versus Fairmont State on Monday (Jan. 18). 
• Sophomore guard Courtney Wilfong leads the Bobcats with 21 assists. Senior guard Summer Matlack is right behind with 20 helpers.
Vicky Bullett enters her fifth season as the West Virginia Wesleyan head coach. The former All-American at Maryland and former WNBA No. 1 draft pick played six seasons in the WNBA. Bullett is a member of the Maryland Athletic Hall of Fame and Women's Basketball Hall of Fame. She helped Team USA to a gold medal in 1988. 
• WVWC fell in its last outing, 91-50 at Charleston on Saturday (Jan. 23). Cierra Tolbert nearly had a double-double with eight points and nine rebounds. 
 
Scouting Alderson Broaddus
The Battlers are on a three-game winning streak after defeating  Davis & Elkins, 84-73 on Wednesday (Jan. 27). Alderson Broaddus is 4-3 overall and in its first season as a member of the Mountain East Conference. 
 
Madeline Moyer is the leading scorer (11.9 points per game) through the first seven games and has made a team-high 17 shots from behind the arc. 
 
Shay Harper is the other Alderson Broaddus player averaging double figures scoring (10.1 points per game). Harper scored 15 points and dished out six assists in the win over Davis & Elkins on Wednesday (Jan. 27). 
 
Summer Quesenberry enters her first season as the head coach of the Battlers. Prior to taking the helm at Alderson Broaddus, Quesenberry spent the previous season as an assistant men's basketball coach at Urbana. Quesenberry holds an overall head coaching record of 74-112 including previous stops at Brescia and Lourdes. 
 
Scouting Notre Dame (Ohio)
The Falcons are off to a 5-1 start after a 67-61 win at Frostburg State on Saturday (Jan. 23). Notre Dame (Ohio) is in the receiving votes category of the D2SIDA Top-25 poll. 
 
Jada Marone is the reigning MEC women's basketball 'Player of the Week' after putting up 21 points and swiping four steals in NDC's win over Frostburg State. She is averaging a staggering 25.0 points per game through the fist six contests of the season. Marone also leads the Falcons with 24 steals. 
 
Marina Adachi currently sits at 16.8 points per game and 5.0 boards per game after a 17-point performance at Frostburg State. 
 
Lauren Macer enters her fourth season as the head coach of the Notre Dame College women's basketball program. She led the Falcons to an impressive 26-5 campaign last season and carries a 69-29 overall record.

West Virginia Wesleyan women's basketball is scheduled to continue its MEC slate in Buckhannon against Wheeling on Wednesday, Feb. 3 at 5 p.m. before going to West Liberty on Sunday, Feb. 7 for a 2 p.m. tipoff.
