Men's Soccer Preview: Frostburg State & Davis & Elkins

WVWC men's soccer has two crucial matches this week starting with a road clash at Frostburg State.

The Basics
The West Virginia Wesleyan men's soccer team travels to Frostburg State on Wednesday (Nov. 3) before hosting No. 2 Davis & Elkins on Sunday (Nov. 7) at Culpepper Stadium in the final regular season game of the year. Both matches are scheduled for 7 p.m.

  • WVWC needs a win at Frostburg State and either a win or tie against Davis & Elkins to qualify for the Mountain East Conference Tournament.
  • The Bobcats are coming off a 1-0 home victory over West Liberty on Sunday, Oct. 31.
  • Charlie Naylor scored the only goal of the game against the Hilltoppers with a header off of a Connor Hartwell corner kick. It was Naylor's third goal of the season and Hartwell's fifth assist

Scouting Frostburg State
The Bobcats are 7-8-0 in the MEC and have emerged as Wesleyan's biggest competition for the final MEC Tournament spot.

Zach Harpel has three goals and one assist to lead Frostburg State in points this season.

Keith Byrnes is in his 19th season as head coach at Frostburg State.

Scouting Davis & Elkins
The Senators are still unbeaten this season (14-0-2) and are currently ranked No. 2 in the Division-II poll.

Spaniard Daniel Cerezo leads the MEC goalscoring chart with 11.

Fixture History
In the first battle of the Bobcats of the season, Wesleyan came out on top with a 2-0 victory. Javier De Ona Garcia and Nika Monaselidze scored the goals

In the reverse fixture in Elkins, the Senators were victorious in overtime, scoring the golden goal to win 2-1.
