The Basics
The West Virginia Wesleyan men's soccer team is scheduled to kick off the 2021 spring season at Ross Field against Wheeling on Sunday, Feb. 21 at 1 p.m.

Spectators for soccer matches will not be permitted until March 10. As of March 10, a limited number of spectators may be permitted at the discretion of MEC institutions in accordance with state and local guidelines. If changes to the policy are made the Athletics Department will provide an update at that time.

- Andrew Polychroniadis returns from an injury that sidelined him during his junior year (2019) to captain the Bobcats. Polychroniadis started in 14 matches for the Bobcats while tallying five points during the 2018 campaign.
- Nika Monaselidze is the returning points leader for Wesleyan. The Georgian tallied 14 points on six goals and two assists last season.
- Coming off a Second Team All-Conference nomination in his sophomore season Luis Diaz returns for his junior season leading the Bobcats backline.
- First Team All-MEC performer Luca Falconieri has graduated and the Bobcats look to fill his void for the 2021 slate.
- Head Coach Gavin Donaldson enters his 30th season at the helm of the West Virginia Wesleyan men's soccer program. Donaldson enters this season on the verge of a major coaching milestone having amassed 349 wins while at WVWC. Donaldson is also approaching another coaching milestone as he sits at 391 wins over his entire coaching career.Â

Scouting Wheeling
The Cardinals head into 2021 after finishing the 2019 season at 3-15 overall and 2-14 in MEC play.

Wheeling enters 2021 with a lot of new faces, Losing four out of their top five scorers from the 2019 campaign. Â Miguel Martin, the lone returner from that crew, posted two goals and one assist in 2019.

In the net the Cardinals return MEC Honorable Mention keeper Josh Zimmerman. The senior started in 10 games for the Cardinals finishing with a 2.40 GAA (goals against average) and a .667 save percentage.

In charge of the Cardinals is Jim Regan who enters his 36
th season as the head coach at Wheeling. The Northern Ireland native has compiled an astonishing record of 381-272-59 during that time.

Last Season vs. Wheeling
The Bobcats took both meetings against the Cardinals last year. Wesleyan won by a score of 2-0 on Sept. 18, 2019 in Wheeling.

On Oct. 23, 2019 in Buckhannon, the Bobcats continued their success winning by a score of 3-0 behind goals from Sinasi Emre Denis and
Javier De Ona Garcia.
Lauri Vasa and
Nugzar Barkaia added assists in the victory as well.
