The West Virginia Wesleyan women's basketball team is primed for a Mountain East Conference Tournament first round matchup against West Virginia State on Monday (March 1) at 7 p.m. The game will be played at the Walker Convocation Center in Institute, W.Va.Â

The winning team will advance to the quarterfinal round to take on Notre Dame (Ohio) at WesBanco Arena in Wheeling, W.Va. at 4 p.m. on Thursday (March 4). The full bracket can be viewed

Courtney Wilfong ranks fifth in the MEC in assists per game (3.47) and has dished out at least six assists in five games this season.Â

Abi Gabauer bested her previous career-high of 24 points that was set her freshman year with 26 points against West Virginia State on Wednesday (Jan. 20).Â

Cierra Tolbert's father, Ray was the Big Ten Player of the Year at Indiana in 1981, was selected 18
th overall in the NBA draft and played five seasons in the NBA.Â

Vicky Bullett is in her fifth season as the West Virginia Wesleyan head coach. The former All-American at Maryland and former WNBA No. 1 draft pick played six seasons in the WNBA. Bullett is a member of the Maryland Athletic Hall of Fame and Women's Basketball Hall of Fame. She helped Team USA to a gold medal in 1988.Â

Scouting West Virginia State
The Yellow Jackets bested the Bobcats in the previous two meetings this season and are 8-7 overall following a 92-80 loss against MEC South Division champion Charleston on Saturday (Feb. 27).Â

Sophomore guard Destiny Fields is averaging a team-high 14.3 points per game and 7.3 rebounds per game this season. She has swiped a team-high 33 steals for WVSU.

Junior guard Charity Shears averages 13.1 points per game and is coming off 14 points in the setback against Charleston.Â

Charles Marshall is in his fifth season as the head coach of the Yellow Jackets. Prior to taking the helm at West Virginia State, Marshall spent the previous three seasons from 2013-16 as the head women's basketball coach at Glenville State.
