BUCKHANNON, W.Va. – West Virginia Wesleyan Women's Basketball will head to Glenville to face the No. 2 ranked Lady Pioneers Saturday afternoon at the Waco Center. The Bobcats have lost the last 10 matchups, with their last win coming during the 2016-17 season where they swept the Lady Pioneers.
GLENVILLE STATE LADY PIONEERS
The Lady Pioneers enter (14-1) overall and (8-1) in MEC play, sitting alone at the top of the MEC standings. GSU is coming off a 94-60 win at Davis & Elkins and are winners of their last 11 straight.
Glenville State leads Division II in PPG at 91.1 per contest and in Turnovers Forced, forcing opponents into 29.8 turnovers per game. The Lady Pioneers lead or are in the Top-3 in every statistical category in the MEC besides Team Rebounds and Blocked Shots. GSU is outscoring their opponents by 23.1 PPG, ranking 3
rd in the country.
Junior College transfer Breanna Campbell leads Glenville and ranks 11
th in the MEC in scoring, putting together 15.5 PPG. Toledo transfer Mickayla Perdue ranks right behind Campbell, scoring 15.1 per contest while shooting 39% from behind the arc. The Lady Pioneers are led on the glass by Detroit-Mercy transfer Mo Pruitt, pulling down 5.7 boards per game.
Kim Stephens is in her seventh season leading the Lady Pioneers, posting a (172-22) overall record and (120-11) conference record. Stephens is coming off a historic 2022 season, winning the NCAA Division II National Championship and posting a (35-1) record on the season. She was awarded the WBCA National Coach of the Year, MEC Women's Sports Coach of the Year, and the Furfai Award for the State's top College Coach.
WEST VIRGINIA WESLEYAN BOBCATS
The Bobcats enter (2-10) overall and (1-8) in MEC play. Wesleyan picked up a much-needed win on Wednesday night, defeating Concord 70-58 to pick up their first conference win of the season.
Wesleyan ranks 4
th in the MEC in Scoring Defense, allowing 69.4 PPG. The Bobcats rank in the Top-5 in Rebounding and 3-Point FG Made. WVWC continues to struggle to take care of the ball, ranking 11
th in Assist/Turnover Ration and 10
th in Turnover Margin.
Emma Witt leads the Bobcats in scoring, posting 16.0 PPG.
Shelby Genes had a career-high 28 points against Concord, raising her to 9.2 PPG. Witt continues to lead Wesleyan on the boards, grabbing 6.1 per contest.
