BUCKHANNON, W.Va. – West Virginia Wesleyan Women's Basketball will welcome the Davis & Elkins Senators Saturday afternoon. The Bobcats have dropped the previous two matchups to D&E. This will be the first meeting of the season between the two.
DAVIS & ELKINS SENATORS
The Senators enter (3-12) overall and (3-8) in MEC play. They are currently in a five-way tie for 7
th place in the conference standings. D&E lost at Fairmont State on Wednesday 82-65 and are riding a five-game losing streak.
Davis & Elkins does the dirty work, ranking 2
nd in the MEC in Team Rebounds (43.0 AVG/G) and 1
st in Team Defensive Rebounds (29.8 AVG). The Senators also rank 2
nd in Blocked Shots, blocking 3.67 shots per game. D&E has struggled stopping teams on a consistent basis, ranking 11
th in Scoring Defense (78.5 PPG).
The Senators are led by Glenville State transfer Taylor Smith, who averages 14.7 PPG (13
th MEC) and 2.8 APG. Alexis Smith leads D&E in assists, dishing out 3.1 APG. Ellie Wilkerson has been another reliable source of scoring, scoring 12.5 PPG on 54% shooting from the field. Wilkerson has been the leading rebounder for the Senators at 7.4 boards per game.
Donna Carr is in her first season as the Head Coach of Davis & Elkins. Carr spent two seasons at Hillsborough Community College in Tampa, Fla. most recently and was at Saint Leo University prior to Hillsborough. In her college career, she was a 3-year starter at the University of South Carolina before transferring to Catawba College to finish her career, leading them to a Conference Championship and an Elite 8 D-II appearance. She also played professionally overseas.
WEST VIRGINIA WESLEYAN BOBCATS
The Bobcats enter (2-12) overall and (1-10) in MEC play. WVWC fell to Frostburg State their last time out 66-48.
Wesleyan stays put at 4
th in the MEC in Scoring Defense (68.6 PPG). The Bobcats continue to struggle to get it going on the offensive end, ranking last in the conference in Scoring Offense at 58.5 PPG. Even through the offensive struggles, they have been able to give themselves second chance opportunities, pulling down 13.6 Offensive Rebounds per game (3
rd MEC).
Emma Witt dropped to 10
th in the MEC in scoring, now averaging 15.3 PPG to lead the Bobcats.
Daveona Hatchell is the leading team rebounder, grabbing 6.4 RPG.
Courtney Wilfong ranks T-6
th in assists, handing out 3.3 APG.
