BUCKHANNON, W.Va. – West Virginia Wesleyan Women's Basketball heads north to face the Wheeling Cardinals on Wednesday night at 5:30 p.m. Wheeling took the first matchup of the season in early December, winning 61-50 in Buckhannon.
WHEELING CARDINALS
The Cardinals enter (11-7) overall and (9-3) in MEC play. Wheeling sits in a two-way tie for 3
rd place with Charleston in the standings. WU is riding a five-game winning streak, recently defeating West Liberty on Saturday 74-68.
Wheeling ranks 2
nd in the MEC in Scoring Defense, only allowing 64.6 PPG. The Cardinals do a little bit of everything, ranking 4
th in Scoring Margin (6.4), Team FG% (42%), Team Rebounds (38.9 RPG), Rebounding Margin (1.8), and Assist/Turnover Ratio (0.77). They do struggle in 3-Point FGs Made (5.1), Free Throw % (65%) and Team Offensive Rebounds (11.3 AVG/G), ranking them 10
th in those categories.
Lauren Calhoun leads the charge for the Cardinals, averaging 18.9 PPG (4
th MEC) and pulling down 11.8 RPG, which ranks her 6
th in the country and 1
st in the MEC. Kenzie Dalton is the leading passer for Wheeling and second-best in the league, dishing out 4.2 APG. Shanley Woods adds another scoring dynamic, averaging 10.1 PPG while shooting 35% from behind the arc.
Anna Kowalska is in her first season as Head Coach of the Cardinals. She came to Wheeling after spending one season as the HC at Life University. Prior to Life University, Kowalska was at the helm of the West Virginia Tech WBB program for three seasons, taking them to three consecutive NAIA Tournaments, All-Conference selections, Conference Player of the Year, and three NAIA Honorable Mention All-Americans. She also spent five seasons as an assistant at WVU Tech and one season as the Director of Basketball Operations at Kent State in 2011-12.
WEST VIRGINIA WESLEYAN BOBCATS
The Bobcats enter (2-13) overall and (1-11) in MEC play. WVWC has lost a couple of close matchups during their current three-game losing streak, lastly to Davis & Elkins 67-61 on Saturday.
Wesleyan's defense has been the bright spot this season, still ranking 4
th in the conference in Scoring Defense, allowing just 68.5 PPG. On the other end of the floor, the Bobcats have struggled scoring, ranking last in Scoring Offense at 58.7 PPG. WVWC has been active on the boards, pulling down 13.3 offensive rebounds per game, which is 4
th in the MEC.

Emma Witt, averaging 15.1 PPG.
Shelby Genes adds 8.5 PPG and
Daveona Hatchell puts in 8.3 PPG. Hatchell is the leading board getter, grabbing 6.3 RPG.
