BUCKHANNON, W.Va. – West Virginia Wesleyan Women's Basketball team will be home for the second consecutive game to face MEC foe Concord in the Rockefeller Center on Wednesday evening. The Mountain Lions have won the previous two matchups.
CONCORD MOUNTAIN LIONS
The Mountain Lions enter (4-8) overall and (2-6) in MEC play. CU is coming off a 93-52 loss at Wheeling, their worst loss of the season. They are currently on a two-game losing streak.
Concord ranks Top-3 in Team Rebounds and Offensive Rebounds in the MEC. They struggle from behind the arc though, ranking 11
th in Team 3-Point FG% and last in 3-Point FG Made.
Jaisah Smith leads the Mountain Lions in scoring at 11.5 PPG and assists at 2.0 APG. Abbie Smith trails not too far behind, averaging 10.9 PPG. Smith leads CU on the boards, pulling down 7.5 RPG. Alexis Phillips has been active on the boards as well, grabbing 7.0 rebounds per contest.
Head Coach Tesla Southcott is in her first season as the leader of the program after serving as an assistant coach for recently-retired Kenny Osborne. Since being on the bench at Concord as an assistant and now the Head Coach, CU has posted a 90-58 record.
WEST VIRGINIA WESLEYAN BOBCATS
The Bobcats enter (1-10) overall and (0-8) in MEC play. Wesleyan last played Saturday afternoon, losing to WV State 79-69. WVWC looks to capture their first conference win of the season.
Wesleyan ranks 4
th in the MEC in Total Defense, holding opponents to 70.5 PPG. The Bobcats haven't been able to find their groove on the offensive end, ranking last in the league at only 58.7 PPG.
Emma Witt leads the Bobcats and ranks 8
th in the conference in scoring at 16.5 PPG, including a career-high 36 points on Saturday against WV State.
Courtney Wilfong ranks 6
th in the MEC in assists at 3.4 per outing with a season-high 8 assists in a win against Salem.
